    S6 throwing 16814 code... options?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
And of course there are effectively none of our stupid expensive cats left in the channels. This code is generally cat and not O2 sensor right? All the info I can find on piggies for 4.2's is talking about the A6 version with pre-cats... what are the options for our non-pre-cat S6's?

Mine's been throwing the same P0430/16814 code intermittently for the last 6 months. It could also be a leak in the flex pipe that is behind the front O2 sensor and in front of the converter, air leaks in and throws the rear sensor off which makes the ECU think there's something wrong with the converter.

Here's a good video on diagnosing bad catalytic converters:

You just have to get under it and smack the cat a couple times and listen to see if it rattles. If so it's the cat..and also, if it doens't it's probably the cat. If the sensor is bad it's pretty reliable at throwing a code for a bad sensor.
I've been told by more than one source that these do the trick on the 4.2 and S6 :
(if not I happen to have a couple different BBD files that take care of it also...* wink wink, *nudge nudge)

Magnaflow still makes a direct fit replacement for less than half of what OE is. They might be the only company that does at this point.

    #24061 (R) and #24062 (L), "standard", whatever that means
    #51664 (R) and #51849 (L), "OE grade"

Ya, going to have to do some investigation. I'll be a bit pissed if it is the cat though, both cats and all 4 O2 sensors were replaced at the same time as the timing belt in Oct 2010 just before I bought the car. An exhaust leak probably makes a bit more sense, the exhaust sounds a little louder and more throaty so that kind of correlates. Could also just be a bad tank of fuel (unlikely).

If you're lucky its the flex pipe, a good exhaust shop can cut it out and weld a new one in.

This sounds like something you should tell me more about.... they work with non-6MT swapped?

I have a couple versions. I need to figure out how to correct checksums on the 01E file, I think they're wrong. But the TIP version works great; no tune, but CATs/ SAI turned off.

hmmm.... and this is uploaded to the ECU via the ODB port? that TIP file would certainly make cutting out the cats and straight piping a lot easier...

Yep. Takes about 3 minutes. That's ^ what I said after replacing the cats and getting the Cat Efficiency error.

What software do you use for the upload? It's not VCDS right? The file is small enough that you could email it to me?

File is 1024kb. use a VCDS hex can cable (or a cheap blue KKL cable) and Nefmoto...click go and it usually take 3 minutes.

Have you tried using me7sum to fix the checksums?

not yet-- The only file with checksum issue is the one w/ EVAP turned off, and it hasn't been an issue yet. But I'll check that one soon. The one w/ No cats/ SAI works perfect.

Hmmm.... looks like I have some reading to do about Nefmoto. Hopefully it can be installed on Win10 as that's what's on my VagCom tablet.

Edit: installs on Win10 with no problems :D
