Alright guys so im in a bit of a pickle that im sure some of you can help me out with. I purchased a 2002 a4 used and with it came absolutely no records of any maintenance. After checking out the car/ modding i have discovered that every single part on the car is oem which leads me to believe it was dealer serviced for all or a great majority of its life. Now this led me on my goosechase of asking around the different dealerships by me for records on the cars maintenance history only to find them all shut me down and basically say that they cant do anything for me. If any of you have access to the dealer records or know someone who does please pm or reach out to me somehow i will love you forever/ pay some fee if my love is not enough. Thanks guys

Sign up for mycarfax.com. Enter your VIN. I believe it checks that you actually own the car, then if any maintenance has been recorded, you should see it. It might not be totally complete, but should give you a pretty good idea of what's been done.

not sure why it matters at this point? this is something you want to know pre-purchase. now, you own the thing, fix whats broken, leave the rest alone.

To be honest with you, ive already "fixed whats broken" and completely gone through the car. Id just rather not have to completely guess on absolutely no information whatsoever, also when it comes down for resale down the road its nice to have some service history to show you know...

there could also be 2 other explanations:

    1. Previous owner only used OEM parts (as most people do now days if they want the car to last)
    2. Never had any maintenance done

Carfax is a good point of reference. When I was looking for maintenance records I started with carfax. I used it to determine the dealers where the car was serviced and then I called them. I was able to get one of the dealers to fax me some records(with previous owners information removed) and another just told me the mileage and the service that was done to it.

The dealer has come up with a policy where they will not release prior records for a vehicle if the repair was paid for by a previous owner, it's just a policy that they follow for some stupid reason. They will always have an excuse for it, but their excuse varies and really has no practical reasoning. They CAN and SHOULD give you records of any work done under warranty and due to TSB's and recalls.
Best you can hope for is hope someone will do you a favor, occasionally there's a rational person who gives in and will print the records with identifying info removed. It's just how it is.
Fir the recall/ TSB/warranty records you might be try the "my insurance company/ 3rd party warranty advisor is requesting the records...can you fax them to me" or some angle like that. Otherwise...out of luck

i have gotten a carfax of the car and yes, it was brought to the dealer as often as ive ever seen, almost every oil change. i have not tried to go into the dealer where the car was purchased/serviced now that is a good idea.

Also a couple ziners have pmd me saying that they have buddies on the inside so we'll see if one of them can come through.
