Thumbs up NOW AVAILABLE: JHM B8 S5 4.2L Stage 1 Supercharger Kit

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Introducing the JHMotorsports Stage 1 B8-S5 4.2L Supercharger Kit!!!

The JHM Stage 1 Supercharger is hands down the most cost effective supercharger solution for the B8-S5 4.2L. With common bolt-ons and supporting hardware, we have repeatably achieved high 11 second quarter mile runs, with 118MPH trap speeds!! With performance like that, your seemingly unsuspecting two door German coupe becomes a definite force to be reckoned with.

    FEATURES AND SPECIFICATIONS

a Our JHM Stage 1 Supercharger Kit for the B8-S5 4.2L will make 100-120 wheel horsepower (WHP) over your car's current configuration. Your current modifications, the dynamometer (dyno) used, temperature, elevation, and octane of gas will all effect the exact amount of power gains.

Our Supercharger Kit features a Vortech V3 Si Centrifugal Supercharger Head Unit that is good for up to 800 horsepower! (Unchecked, this amount of power would be too much for a stock B8-S5 4.2L motor. Through our extensive development and testing process, we were able to limit the output of the supercharger to levels safe for the stock motor through hardware and tuning.) The V3 Si blower is a self-contained unit featuring quiet, helical cut gears. The only time you hear noise from the blower is at idle and low speeds. At wide open throttle, you hear nothing but the raw power coming from your JHM Supercharged S5.

The JHM Stage 1 Supercharger Kit also includes our JHM Supercharger Mounting Brackets that were designed and are made in-house. These brackets are made from reinforced steel, laser cut, and then powder coated black for a clean installation.

In order to insure the longevity and durability of the belt and pulleys on the S5, we upgraded the OEM belt and pulleys to a 6-rib system with our JHM 6-Rib Accessory Belt Conversion Kit. This Conversion Kit features 3 JHM Supercharger Kit specific pulleys including an Alternator Pulley, a precision balanced Crank Pulley, and a Supercharger Pulley good for 5 to 7 pounds of boost (exact boost levels will vary depending on your exhaust system, other modifications, and environmental factors).

Due to the compact engine bay of the V8 S5, we had to locate the Vortech Supercharger Head Unit off of the passenger side of the motor, below the headlight. We created a number of different proprietary parts including our JHM Supercharger Kit Silicone Inlet and Outlet Hoses. The Inlet Hose is made from reinforced silicone to prevent collapse under vacuum. The air intake is filtered through a JHM Supercharger Kit specific K&N high-flow, conical air filter.

We are currently working on JHM Supercharger Kit add-ons that will allow you to use more of the supercharger's power capabilities. Stage 1+ (Intercooled with upgraded fueling and a smaller pulley, safe for stock motors). Stage 2 will require a built motor for engine safety and longevity.

Please PM me a quote on your product plus any additional recommendations - i.e. clutch upgrade recommendations, brakes, etc... also good to know.

I've got a 2010 S5 6MT with the full handling options - Alu Kreutz, sway bars, canyon run CR-15, lowered via H&R suspension, Pilot Super Sport 275 width tires on 9.5" wheels, and so forth.

I see this as a potential longer-term future project... What sort of peak TQ is this making? Just bought a stage 2 clutch rated for 400ft/lbs of TQ. Would I need something stronger?

This is what JHM's kit looks like from the driver's seat, assuming you ever actually get to take the car home from the shop:

Haven't had a single hiccup. Did install and flashed the tune myself. What's the code for and are there any symptoms? I'd take it up with the shop that did the install. Got just a about 1500 miles on the kit. Car runs better than it did before. Looking forward to stg1+!!!

    * Supercharger installed the first week of April. Flash was delayed because JHM's "server was down"
    * Car was finally flashed on April 11. (JHM received a flash report confirming which software was on the car)
    * First check engine light on April 14. Shop notified JHM of irregularities in the car's behavior. JHM advises to clear the check engine light and keep driving the car.
    * Second check engine light on April 25. Car is at the shop again. JHM didn't identify the "bad" software until April 28.
    * May 3: JHM finally uploads correct software to the server, shop reflashes the car. Transmission starts acting weird (rough shifting). Shop inquires with JHM.
    * Today: Car is still at the shop.

JHM told the shop to install the wrong software. The correct software didn't exist until last week when they finally admitted they gave us bad software, put together the "right" software, uploaded it to their server, and the shop was able to reflash the car.

Mind you, I ordered this kit in January, so they had plenty of time to get the correct software together. JHM receives a flash report anytime anyone flashes their software on a car, so there's zero reason I should have been driving around with bad software and trashing my engine. zero. Lets hope there's no permanent damage to the drivetrain.

Garbage experience all around, made worse by totally scattershot customer service. Would not recommend.

What is your order number? I would like to look into this.

Something seems fishy as we would NEVER instruct someone to flash incorrect software, specially on a supercharged vehicle.

Hopefully a shop isn't just feeding you BS to cover themselves on a mistake.

Yes, we get burn reports stating that there was a flash and what file was flashed. What we don't see is what is on the car. For instance, if a dealer flashes NA software on your car, all we see is an S5 receiving NA software.

I was able to find who you are, and what the deal is.

This kit was purchased through one of our dealers on the EAST Coast (even though you are local to us) and apparently had it shipped back to yourself in CA and then taken to another shop in SF (even though you are local to us) for installation who is not a dealer of ours.

    1. The shop you took this to is not one of our dealers. The flash was not "Delayed" because our server was down, it was delayed because they had to get a tuning account setup since they are not one of our dealers.

    2. Yes, we received your flash report. We received a report saying that the shop you went to flashed an S5 with NA software and name you gave them. This does not tell us that wrong software is on the car, SPECIALLY when the name used on the flash report isn't the same first name you used to shop with us (I can only assume why.. given the details on your previous orders)

    3. Your shop did call us. They said they had a supercharged S5 car with codes. (We didn't know that there was incorrect software let alone who the customer is with issues..why would we expect someone to flash NATURALLY ASPIRATED software on a supercharged car?) It is normal for a car to have some codes right after a supercharger install. With modules ect.. being unplugged during the installation. What we recommend is save the codes, clear them, and then drive (of course assuming you flashed SC software for a SC car and not NA software which is clearly labeled on the file names) and see what codes come back. Often times all the codes are directly related to the installation process and go away after they have been cleared.

    4. When your shop contacted us again about the codes that came back, we saw that they are irregular for a SC car so we looked into who the customer is to find out any details we have on the car. That is when we see your name with an NA file on a SC'd car. We instructed them to immediately stop driving the car.

    5. We made the correct file for your ECU (dealers of ours know that if a file isn't uploaded for the ECU to contact us so we can upload it. When a new product that involves software is launched we may not have files ready for each and every box code until we know that they exist). Upon letting your shop know that the file was ready, we also let them know that tiptronic cars can have inconsistent shifting in D mode until the TCU is able to learn the load characteristic of the ECU Software. After a few drive cycles it will go away. Driving in Sport or Manual mode will have zero issues from the beginning.

So NO. We did NOT tell your shop to install the wrong software. The software for your car didn't exist because you ordered from a dealer on the east coast that shipped the kit back to you, without ever letting us know what ECU you have in the car because our dealer never had your car to begin with.

This is JHM "customer service" in a nutshell.

Step 1: Blame your vendor, XLR8 Performance, for "not giving you the information".
Step 2:Blame the shop (the shop, Tomas Sport Tuning in Berkeley, is one of the best shops in California, if not the US, for VW/Audi).
    Step 3: Blame the customer.

    Give me a break.

A little bit of accountability goes a long way. You guys totally dropped the ball and still refuse to admit it.

(by the way, the only reason I ordered from your Vendor, XLR8, is because Dru didn't respond to my sales inquiry for 4 days).

We didn't blame XLR8 for not getting us the info. There is no way they could have since they didn't install the kit. (see my very last sentence)

As good as Tomas may be, they did not give you the correct information for what actually happened. Any by your tone towards us and in this thread, appears that they blamed us for the issues instead of telling you exactly what happened.

Not blaming you either. You are not the one that installed the wrong software on the car.. Unless they let you do the flash yourself? You are upset, and I totally understand. I would be too if my shop told me these things. Unfortunately what you were told or maybe how you understood what they were saying is just simply not correct.

So, it's my fault for ordering from your vendor, but you're not blaming me. got it.

    What a joke.

When I buy your kit, it's your job to QA your product and make sure everything is in order when it ships. If you don't have information you need to deliver a complete kit, you get the information. You didn't. End of story.

You are choosing to play victim instead of trying to understand what actually happened. If that is what you want to do to make yourself feel better, then there is nothing more I can do for you.

    Bottom line:

    1. Your shop either gave you false information about what happeend, or you took what they told you incorrectly. (based on this conversation with you I am starting to learn towards the latter)

    2. Your shop flashed a naturally aspirated file on your S5 and gave the car back to you instead of contacting us and letting us know that they could not find the supercharger file.

I'm not playing anything, and it's obvious to any rational adult what actually happened. You had months to get the software together, and you didn't do it.

    * you didn't do it when the kit was ordered
    * you didn't do it when the kit was shipped
    * you didn't do it when TST called you and walked through the entire flash process with you on the phone
    * you didn't do it when the car came back with 'check engine' error codes

There is absolutely no way that JHM did not have the information about my kit and the information for my vehicle when this car was flashed, unless you're in the habit of giving server access to random people who call you up out of the blue.

...I mean. My opinion isn't worth ish here. Im not a salesman a vendor or a rep. In no way am I speaking on anyone's behalf here. I'm just a rational adult who works on his own car.

-but.. having never attempted an online burn to ecu tune. I read the directions. I read the directions again. I did the flash myself. Without needing to be "walked through" the process or make any phone calls as jhm provided incredible directions from start to finish of flashing software.
-the software doesn't "come ready" in a box when the kit arrives. It doesn't matter what vendor you ordered it from. It's all online. There's no broken file. There is no "getting a file together". So whoever is telling you that either effed up the burn(which is possible) or.. (from what it sounds like...) chose the wrong file to burn to ecu.
-flashed mine myself from my own laptop. On oct 2nd 2016 to be exact. Not a single problem since. SC file is good.
-Jhm provides the login. From there you download the software. Go online and log in. See the available files in a drop down menu and burn the correct one.

Sadly, it was only a matter of time before something like this surfaced.

More importantly though. stg1+ please mine wants more boost. And I want one of the fancy little vortech arrow stickers you have on your shop car Jake. Make it happennnnnnnnnnn

I think you've missed the point. The correct file did not exist until May 03. This kit was ordered on January 19.

This isn't a misclick. JHM literally told the shop to flash the wrong file and they won't admit it.

One of the most disturbing things about this whole experience is that I had this kit installed at one of the most detail-oriented, reputable shops in the entire country for VW/Audi.

Imagine what kind of treatment you'll get from JHM if you install this yourself and encounter any problems?

    Think about it.

I am just not understanding what you are saying..maybe we all aren't..maybe you aren't haha.
You are saying the "correct file" didn't exist until May 3rd. I have had my car done since Oct of last year. The correct file existed long before you ordered your kit. It's not created for you specifically.
...now... maybe I am just being dense... but I'm not a total idiot either. A server holds information. All of JHM tunes have been on there.
so. Unless they lost their information and everything had to be recreated and reuploaded(which I find hard to believe). I cant find that statement to be accurate that the file "did not exist" or was "missing".
EVEN IF SO, the files are blatantly marked on the server when you go to burn to ecu.

I'm speaking from a one time experience with this kind of online burn to ECU tune. Doing this all on my own. But, I have no reputation or title such as the best vw/audi shop in the country. And I managed to figure this out. Not trying to bad talk this shop but it really seems the truth is being fudged or misunderstood somewhere.

As far as JHM and customer service. I have dealt with them nearly exclusively for my Audi builds over the past 4/5 years. I've had my own issues/questions. Which are to be expected in the performance world. They've yet to fail me.

I'm not here to piss around and bicker. I'm just giving my outside opinion on what the story looks like to me. I hope it gets resolved. Best of luck to all three parties involved here.
