I bought a 2009 Audi A4 SE Cabriolet in 2013, used (obviously) from a reputable Acura dealer in AZ.
I was supplied with a clean carfax, stating no accident history, and I still possess this carfax report.
That clean history was important to me.
Last night, I was negotiating a trade-in of this car at a dealership when they stated that there was an accident/Towing required on the Carfax report.
They provided me with a copy and I then provided them with my clean carfax.
The accident that was reported occurred on 04/09 before the car had ever been sold. It was evidently fixed and sold several months later by the Audi dealer in AZ.
And carfax "started reporting this accident on April of 2016" - yes 7 years later!
So I bought a car with a clean carfax and just accepted $1000 less due to this issue (about 10%).
Why would a dealer report this 7 years later? Do I have any recourse, and if so, with whom?
