    Steering Wheel Controls Not Working

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

My steering wheel controls such as the volume control and track change function don't work. Any insight on how to fix this? I looked in the fuse box and saw nothing. Is there an under dash relay that controls this?

    Thanks in advance

I did not remove the steering wheel. What happened leading up to it was this

I was tapping into the power source underneath the steering wheel to run a power wire for my compressor. Did that and when I was hooking it up my battery was still connected and I kept hearing the speakers make noise. Disconnected my battery and the controls didn't work anymore

I'm curious about this as well. However, my volume toggle works but the track change (left side) doesn't. I also noticed at night the left side of my steering wheel when lit is very dim compared to the volume switch.

Sadly for the past year+ I've just learned to live with it. Hoping the solution to fix it is rather simple and/or cheap. Otherwise I'll just continue to extend my right arm to reach over to the center console and switch stations.

To assist in fault finding, I have the aftermarket 7" Erisin 2028AM stereo. When I first installed it, the controls worked fine. I messed around with settings and then decided to do a factory reset. This resulted in the car not communicating with stereo properly, in particular the mfsw controls. VCDS detects the steering controls, however the radio no longer is detected.

    Any clues?

I've never touched my steering wheel and this happened to me too once last month...Both sides light up and everything but actually never did anything...Came to a stop, turned car off and on, and everything was back to normal

At the risk of sounding stupid, what does VCDS stand for? I'm having an issue with my SWC's also. I am installing a new Aftermarket HU, with a built-in CAN-BUS decoder. However, it still has wires out the back for SWC's, Illumination, ACC, Reverse, Grnd. I was under the impression that all of those functions are controlled by your CAN-BUS system, but maybe I am mistaken. Does anyone know or have seen where the SWC wires go once they leave the steering wheel column?

I have a 2004 Audi A8 , I had the dealership a long time ago install a new MMI control module head , but ever since then the steering wheel buttons do not work but when I go in with the VCDS software and check everything out and test the buttons all the buttons test are good stealing angle sensor is good rotation is good and it seems like all the programming is good so why do I see all the buttons working with my VCDS software but the buttons don't work for the car stereo or voice speech activation , if anyone could help me on this I would much appreciate it.
