Just got back from the track...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So last Wednesday I took my S4 to the track (Orlando Speed World) for the first time ever, only got 1 run in because it was about to rain... got a miserable 12.45 @111.50. I was disappointed as I expected more out of the car. I have a 2014 S4, APR Stage II, TSU tune, AWE Intake, and Touring Exhaust.

Anyway, I decided to go back today and get some more runs in. The only change I made was to disconnect the battery over night because I hadn't done that since the tunes. It immediately felt faster the next day. I also filled up the tank with 4 gallons of E85 and the rest with 93 (earlier in the week). No weight reduction. Half a tank of gas when I got to the track.

Here are my times. So close to getting into the 11's. If it wasn't hot as shit out in Orlando, I think I can do it. I purchased the AWE intercooler and get that within the next couple weeks and will get it installed.

I'm car 19 :) I'm pretty impressed with the consistency of the runs. The shittiest run was done in manual mode without launch control. All other runs I used LC.

You should meet up with Loe in the winter and see what it does then. You'll get those 11's in better conditions. Solid times though for this time of year

a couple of observations from my end.

Disconnecting the battery does nothing but reset all adaptations (standard ODB2/emissions items), including adaptations such as ignition timing advance and AFR. I know most tunes have a base table, however there is an adaptation period to adjust to your particular car and environment, which may not have happened if you had just disconnected the car. Did you do a few WOT runs in 3rd of 4th gear prior to going to the track? If not, you may not have been running optimally IHMO.

The D/A at Orlando Speedway last night was about 2,179ft. at 6:00pm to 1,707ft. at 10:00pm last night according to this ---> http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-...time=9:53%20PM

Considering your density altitude and running in 80-89F temps and humidity ranging from 53% to 79%, your car did very well. I actually think you'll land an 11.7x or a very very low 11.8x if you ran in cooler temps in the late fall/winter/ early spring months.

I went ahead and added you to the database since I had all of the information available to me

I didn't have any codes, but did do a few hard runs after disconnecting / reconnecting the battery. Especially after doing the E85/93 mix... needed to burn as much fuel as I could so I didn't show up at the track with a full tank of gas :)

Did you run e85 on your first run? If you were pulling boost and timing from knock than thats the most likely culprit and why your car is running very well now even in this heat. e85 is no joke. Some prefer to race fuel.

Is it proper to refer to a dragstrip as a "track"? I always thought tracks had turns.

    haha.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragstrip

"A dragstrip is a facility for conducting automobile and motorcycle acceleration events such as drag racing. Although a quarter mile (1320 feet, 402 m) is the best known measure for a drag track, many tracks are eighth mile (201 m) tracks, and the premiere classes will run 1,000 foot (304.8m) races. The race is begun from a standing start which allows three factors to affect the outcome of the race: reaction time, torque, and traction."

    It's a track.

PRS did the APR Stage 2 / pulley install, and installed my AWE exhaust. FS tuning did my APR TSU tune and will be installing the AWE Heat Exchanger as soon as it's delivered.

Glad you had fun! Which file did you run with the E85? Race tune or pump gas?

I'm gonna be running at SAC raceway in a few weeks with the boys from JHM and the rest of our local crew. DA for that night when its gonna be in the 90s with a 29.xx baro looks like it's gonna be between 1,700-2000 ft...(track is 30ft alt.)... Oh well.

    Subbed!

I have the 93 tune file.

Going to go back this coming Wednesday and maybe pump a few gallons of race gas in and see how I do.

I wouldn't run E85. Car leans out too much. Added cooling effect, yes, added octane, yes. However, a dumb idea.

Swap out the 3-4 gallons for race fuel, and have yourself a ball

uhh no man. The current fastest stock blower S4 (loe) runs e40 without issues. You can add like 3 gal of e85 and be just fine.
