    Headlight/ballast problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
For the last few weeks my driver side headlight has been randomly shutting off while driving, if I turned off my lights quick and back on it would work fine again for the rest of the night.. Tonight I was fixing the leveler in the headlight because the ball in the arm came out of the clamps on both headlights.. One went smooth, the driver side was a mess... I completely messed up the alignment trying the get the ball back in place.. Eventually I did get it in place and got the headlights back on the car...... And both hids did not turn on.. After unplugging them and repugging the passenger side worked fine and haven't had any more problems.. But the drivers side it's all wacky it turns on sometimes and then dims out in 2 minutes.. It will take me 10 times turning my lights on and off to even get the driver side to start... 1 year old headlights stock ballasts and stock bulbs.. Can anyone give me any help, thanks

I have a pair of OEM Valeo ballasts for sale. Link.

I'll even throw in a pair of used, but good D2S bulbs if you buy the two ballasts.

How's your voltage in the car? This is also a classic low voltage issue

It's probably an issue with the ballast. The OEM Valeo ballast's in our cars are getting along in age and start to fail. Swap ballasts to verify and see if the issue follows. If you want to get a good aftermarket set up, try www.theretrofitsource.com for some options. I've been happy with my TRS purchase.

These ballasts are only 6 months old maybe.. But I have an extra set so I'll try to swap them in and see... Also I will check my voltage of my car

I would try fuses before buying a new ballast

    Intermittent fuses.... Yea makes sense.

14v is healthy. Pull your headlights and plug the left into the right and right into the left. Does problem follow?

Funny, as I commented on this post, my driver's side HID started to work intermittently. I pulled the housing out, and checked the wiring inside the housing this weekend. I had a burnt 9006 connector harness on my Morimoto ballast. I guess the 50w ballasts get those bulbs hot. Anyway, I just rewired a new heavy duty connector and it seems to work fine now.

That's one of the reasons the stock setup is 35w.... Heat is a killer.
