    Alternator removal issues

This weekend I removed the alternator in my 2005.5 S4, and ran into a couple of unexpected issues.

    1. One of the small hoses near the alternator (not alternator coolant hose) is bulging and I'm worried it will pop. It sits right on top of the alternator coolant hose connecting the alternator to the block. Any idea what this hose could be?

After I took out the alternator (taking it to be refurbished), I finished up for the day by putting the radiator support / bumper back in place. I then closed the hood not realizing that I had disconnected the trunk release cable. Any idea how I can re-open the hood?

    1. That bulging hose is likely the hose for the secondary air injection system. There is a rubber hose that connects the secondary air injection pump to that hard metal line that is attached on top of the right side hard metal coolant pipe.

    2. Rookie mistake of closing the hood without the cable attached. Now you need to use a long pick from the bottom to push the lock mechanism to the left to open the hood. Hopefully you have the headlights off because that would make life easier. It is an art to get the hood open with everything bolted in place. Take your time and be patient.
