    OEM vs aftermarket air filter?

So I was thinking of changing my air filter. Do I just go for OEM or something like a k&n or pipercross etc?
I keep hearing aftermarket filters kill maf sensors but this could also be down to over oiling.

Over oiling is the culprit. It is a personal preference. I have run both and the only gain i see is saving money on replacement oem. As long as you let the oil settle and not overdo it, k&n works fine.

i agree. i run the k&n in box filter myself in several vehicles.

I ran WIX for a bit and didn't have an issue, but I have changed it up a bit and am making a barrier for my intake tube and filter. so it technically wont be a hot air intake..lol sounds great with what I have, and I have seen a small increase in reaction time with my setup, nothing to marvel at, just a little punchier. with the barrier I am doing it will be insulated as well and i may add a fan inside also.

Unless you have the auxiliary radiator removed any non airbox setup is drawing in hot air, regardless of engine to filter heat barrier.

To be clear, stock airbox is the best solution. All others reduce power.

so, why do I see so many builds with them? if the compartment I am building is hindering the airflow similar to the OEM airbox and is insulated, unlike the OEM box, that should help withhold heat temps that rise from the engine.. just wondering, as I have seen lots of funnel filters and heat shield setups online for builds.

I will still have the inlet from the front letting air into the area I am sealing off as well.

    Thanks

The only builds that have them that work are due to either:

a.) Auxiliary radiator has been removed
b.) Car is supercharged by JHM, which in turn removes the auxiliary radiator.

If someone has an intake outside of those two parameters they are lossing power.

Ahh, I see what you are saying, Thanks, havent really noticed any power difference on my half yet. but I am not racing it, I have a lot to work to get to that point.

AEM dryflo is what I'm buying. I have used their filters on my offroad truck and they flow as good as the k&n, but don't need any oil.
