    Just lined up against a Tesla Type S D90 and smacked it!!!

    My tech at our Audi dealership has the D90 and we've been talking about running them to see ho my stage 2 car would do against his claimed 2.7 0-60 time. Well I left him in my wake to my surprise. I sent him a a text asking if he launched poorly or was in the wrong mode. He confirmed he did everything he normally does and he even spun his tires as did I. If this is true that his car does 2.7 0-60 then I can officially say I should be below that number.

    No way a Stage 2 S6 gets to 60 in under 2.7. A stage 2 RS7 may do that on race gas in perfect conditions.

    I have no idea if it will or not but I know it just pulled away from the Tesla with no problem. He is also the tech on my car and is an Audi Master guild who claims my car is faster than the stock RS7 he just did a PPI on.

    We didn't get up to 60 we both got off throttle right at 50mph, I was ahead of him the entire time.

    I bet the Tesla didn't have the Ludicrous Speed upgrade.

    Not familiar with what it is but I'll certainly ask him. I know for a fact he bought the highest line model possible that had a sticker price upwards of $130K.

    Unfortunately just because a car can go 0-60 in 2.7 doesn't mean every driver can repeat that, nice kill tho

    Ahh, I see, he had the 90D not the 90P. The 90D only does 0-60 in 4.2. The 90P can do 0-60 in 2.7 with the Ludicrous Speed upgrade. I recently have been looking at them :-)

    Hard to remove sound from a car and enjoy it, at least for me. I'm sure it's a great car when it's not crashing itself

    I drove the Model S pretty extensively before deciding on my much less expensive S6. It's really an incredible car. Everyone should go test drive it just to experience its full-on, instantaneous torque. It's a hoot.

    There are three "top" Model Ses. The 90D is rated at about 4.2 seconds from zero-to-60. The $20k more expensive P90D is rated at 3.1 seconds. And the P90D with the $10k Ludicrous option is rated at 2.8 seconds. To get full power from Ludicrous, the battery needs to be charged to 100% (a normal "full-charge" is 80 - 90%) and the battery must be warmed up. Do all that and just hang on and feel the g's!!

    Fun fact - The regular rear model designation is P90D. But if you have the Ludicrous option, it's discreetly modified to be P90D (with the underline).

    An Audi tech can afford a $130k car? Unless he is independently wealthy, that sheds some light on why service on these cars is so expensive.

    HIs wife is the bread earner in the family. He's actually a Mercedes Master Guild and they pay their guys better than Audi does for sure.

    My buddy used to be a Mercedes Master Guild tech and owned a $250,000 cigarette boat with two corvette engines in it amongst a bunch of other cool toys. Then he quit to open his own transmission shop and now doesn't have any of those toys anymore. Kinda sad really... wish it would have taken off.

    In Tesla parlance, the number represents the size of the battery. It may be preceded by a P, which stands for Performance, and succeeded by a D, which stands for Dual motor (or AWD). So your friend probably has a P90, a model that is no longer marketed. And Tesla never sold the P90 with the Ludicrous option.

    In the 90 range, Tesla currently sells the 90D, the P90D, and the P90D (with Ludicrous). The P90D, which is slightly faster than the old P90, is rated at 4.2 seconds. So your friend's claim of 2.7 seconds is - excuse the expression - ludicrous.

    True words. I'll tell you, you've got to experience the full-zoot Model S to believe it. I think the only cars that are faster to 60 are the 918 Spyder (0.4 secs faster), the LaFerrari (0.2 secs faster), and the Veyron and 911 Turbo S (0.1 secs faster). That's pretty good company for a $130k family sedan. Of course, everything falls apart in the quarter mile, but hell, I guarantee the Tesla will give you three seconds that you won't forget!

    And btw, although it's a very heavy car, all the weight is in the batteries which are a few inches off the ground. So you'd be amazed at how well the Tesla handles with such a low center of gravity. It's too bad the Model S is always reviewed as an "electric" car. It really is a sports car.

    That's cool that you beat him, but I think it's a fluke. An S6 should not be able to beat a P90D (with sufficient battery*) to 60, at least not on a reliable/consistent basis.

    *I'm not sure at what point the performance of the Tesla begins to degrade, both from a charge percentage and heat basis. I know if the batteries overheat it causes a reduction of power.

    Seeing these cars side by side .... I just love the look of the Audi over the Tesla. But of course I am biased.

    On a related note. I experienced indoor cart racing with ELECTRIC carts. Unbelievable! The instant torque was intoxicating. No exhaust fumes was nice.

    can teslas be logged in via computers to lower suspension?

    my buddy has a p90 w/o ludicrous speed. it is fast and the autopilot is super cool. i wish our audis had autopilot.

    Air suspension is an option, but I don't think anyone's cracked the code to do self-programming on Teslas yet. fwiw, the Model S sits pretty low. As a matter of fact, the air suspension is offered specifically to lift the car over speed bumps and tough angled inclines. It even has a GPS feature that remembers where you want to raise the car and does it automatically as you approach that point. Great stuff.

    Yep, pretty neat when he pulls up to my house and his car automatically adjusts height, I have to manually put mine in raise mode each time.
