    2016 Audi S6 APR Stage 2: Launch Control Fail!!! WTH happened???

    Can someone please explain what they think happened in the video below. This literally happened about 45 mins ago. I was in Dynamic/Sport mode, traction off, pushed the brake pedal as hard as I could, pushed the gas pedal well past the kick down point, let go of brake..launch and BAM!!! Loud noise and transmission seemed stuck. I reviewed the video a number of times and if you look close it went from S1 to D4 as if it skipped gears. It was really weird and scary. Freaked me out. I babied it for about a mile but everything was normal. Shifted fine after that. No codes, no errors, nothing. Drove for another 30 miles or so in all modes and no problems. I didn't however try launch control again. I am freaked out to try it and really don't want to push my luck.

    I shut him down for the night and looked in the engine bay, under the car and no leaks, weird smells, no ticking, nothing. I suppose thats good news but WHAT THE HECK happened?

    Mods: APR Stage 2 with TCU tune and Downpipes, AWE exhaust, Roc Euro Intake.

    What happened after the end of the video? Seems like the clutch let go somehow. Did it go back into gear on its own?

    Maybe Vol4.0 was onto something when he suggested the stage2 takes the DSG well past its documented capabilities. The stage2 on your car is producing more torque than a stock RS7, right?

    Yes you can hear the revs decrease and if I remember correctly, I just kept driving. It was really scary and didn't know what to make of it right away. I was just worried I was gonna see my transmission in my rear view mirror. I am pretty freaked out and now not so sure I'll be trying launch control again. I have done launch control before but I have never pushed the brake pedal down as far as I did this time. I tried it after reading the whole AMAX thread and thought that I would try a full on launch.

    Perhaps Arin or someone at APR can't shed some light on this.

    Wow.. those pops sounds insane. Sounds like one clutch tried to engage after another, but didn't fully take.

    Did you let off the gas right after the first pop?

    So is this a safety thing that is put in place for that specific reason? If so then that would make me feel a lot better. Can you confirm?

    The DSG goes to limp mode from wheel spin? Every car I've ever owned usually decreases engine output as method for wheel spin control. This can be tested on ice, if you're so lucky to live where you get snow and ice covered roads. :)

    Why would Audi drop the tranny into limp mode when its theoretically super easy to spin all the wheels in these cars in climates with snow and ice? This surprises me.

    The problem is obvious. You have a transgender Audi. It's been written in the Man Rulebook that all vehicles that belong to the man shall be referred to as female and as such, should be named after a female. You, my friend, have a confused Audi who doesn't know its place and unfortunately, its transmission has been modified for the wrong gender and doesn't work properly.

    All kidding aside, I hope that was only a one-time thing and that your car is okay going forward.

    Some further thoughts...

    Did you have ESC off? It looked like you only had ASR off by looking at your instrument cluster.

    Press and hold the ESC button for 4-5s until it warns you ESC is off in the center info panel. A short depress deactivates anti-slip. ... at least that's how it works on the RS7.

    Hope it was indeed some kind of safety feature kicking in and no damage was done.
    Nice to hear sofar no issue, but hope you/APR/anybody finds out what happend.

    The video alone isn't enough information for a complete and thorough answer, we'd need a fault code scan as well.

    It does sound and look like it went into limp mode due to wheel spin (as others have said). Get a dealer or friend to pull faults with VCDS to make sure it's clean. Is everything still driving correctly? I assume so, since nothing else has been said about it.

    No video. I honestly was more worried about my car and didn't think of pulling out my phone. It happened exactly like the original posters video.

    Without a fault code, there isn't much we can do. The next time we have a 2016 here we can try to duplicate it, but that's likely to be very difficult.

    If anybody else sees this, please have a shop read the faults. If it's something other than a wheel spin limp mode, we'll get to the bottom of it.
