    Exclamation 2002' Jetta 1.8T Project

Hello guys , My name is Justin. I've recently acquired a 2002' VW Jetta 1.8T, I've only had it for a week. The people i bought it off of said that the computer needed reset. The car doesnt seem like it needs reset. The battery he had in it was not the correct battery in it to begin with got a new battery. Whenever you go to turn the key to start it. Just Clicks at the starter and crank at the bottom of the engine. It doesnt try to crank or even turn the engine. So what i did next what check the spark plugs. The spark plugs were smashed at the bottom of most of them. The timing chain isnt broken its tight as ever. and so is the belt. I cant tell if the engine is out of time. I take a peek down the spark plug holes and the pistons do not seem to be in bad shape? If anyone has any idea it would be greatly appreciated. This is my 2nd jetta so i have past experience with them. Just need some advice. Ive ordered the tool to get the bolts off the head. Just curious of if it would be worth taking the head off and seeing what kind of damage there is. Have a few pictures of what the spark plugs and engine look like now also if needed.

What do you mean it clicks at the starter and and crank at the bottom of the engine? The starter clicking is either a bad starter solenoid or just a bad ground from the starter or not getting enough juice from the battery. The spark plugs don't have anything to do with the starter. But since they're all smashed up you should probably replace them with the proper plugs. Get NGK brand and gap them accordingly. I wouldn't pull the head just yet if it were my rig. Get the engine to turn over first and go from there.
