    Rear axle removal help!

    Is there a DIY for a rear axle removal .......I have a ripped boot ....I want to get this axle out.....my search came up with nothing but front axle ....must not be common....please help

    Not common since the rear wheels don't turn it only rotates some cars with 200k miles still have the oem rear axles for quattro. Maybe phil can shime in.

    Really Easy:

    Remove axle 32mm nut
    Remove axle shield on differential (3 screws)
    Depending if left or right side, remove exhaust silencer hanger of the incriminated side
    Remove axle flange screws (x6)

    DONE

    32mm nut? My car uses a bolt with a 17mm socket head like shown below. I was also unable to collapse the cv joints enough to get the axle out without removing the lower control arms. I had to do this when replacing rear wheel bearings.

    Here are instructions from ECS. Stop at step 12 for just the axle.
