Rear Side Markers Unable to Disable via VAGCOM

Did the VCDS directions to disable the rear markers work? I followed the process below and it never worked.

Disable rear side markers in US vehicles
    [Select]
    [46-Central Convenience]
    [Security Access] enter 16017
[Adaptation - 10] --> channel 209 for left rear side marker
Document your existing number should you need to re-enable rear side markers later
    Change existing number to 0
Channel 210 for right rear side marker
Document your existing number should you need to re-enable rear side markers later
    Change existing number to 32

When I went to channel 209, I got the message that security code must be entered (which I already had).

I tried taking out the bulbs thinking they are not powerful enough to throw a code, I was wrong. Anyone know/used a resistor to put in place of the bulbs in the rear side markers? Have the TAG painted reflectors coming in and don't want to install until I can get this fixed (already tried the TAG instructions but they did not work either).

    Thanks

Serious question, not trying to be a smartass... does this even matter?
I know I did my fronts on my own (plus disabled w/vagcom) and the body shop did my rears when they were doing calipers. Doubt they disabled them and it hasn't seemed to be an issue.

Yours don't seem to shine through the painted rear side markers?

No, but can't say I've looked for it. Is that the only possible issue?
I'll look tonight while it's dark out.

Late reply because I only recently bought my S7. I installed the TAG painted reflectors and left the lights activated. I actually like the way they work with white paint which allows the amber and red to shine through at night.

    Good morning! :)

So the reflector coding is quite simple. It varies from year to year - but your coding should be Channel 209= 12, Channel 210= 44.

Anyone have luck disabling rear side markers (single red LED) on a US spec 2017 S6 yet? I've tried everything listed on multiple sites, no dice. Not a big deal, just surprised they won't disable via coding listed as the front ambers did without issue. Anyhow, TIA to anyone who can help.

Not doable on 2016 S7 C7.5. Gave up, wrapped bulbs and tucked them in quarter panel compartments. Leave bulbs in otherwise you will see error warnings.

    K, thanks... appreciate the info.

UPDATE: Pulled a rear tail light out last night, the single LED side markers are part of the PCB board inside the light assembly. So, unless we figure out how to decode via VCDS, no dice for MY17 S6, etc.

I had trouble diabling mine on MY17 RS7. As you experienced, the fronts turned off easily using the channel that was listed in the VCDS thread, the rears.

The coding that was in the VCDS thread was incorrect for my application; it has the wrong channel. took some trial and error, but i remember changing a few channels between 210 to 215, using the guess and check method. eventually got them to turn off. intoned down the channel and code, change the code, inspected to see if it did what i wanted, and changed it back if it didn't.

Wish i could help you with exactly what i did, but i cant remember and I didn't write it down.

and to those of you asking how to remove them.
front - turn wheel to have access to fender liner screws. unscrew a couple screws at the fender liner, reach in and pop them out.
rear - apply pressure to the bumper just towards the rear of the reflector. this will create a small space to slip in a a very small screwdriver or butter knife to pry it out. alternatively, if you have small hands, you may be angle to rear from underneath and push it out.

EDIT: I just realized the original post was from 2016. oh well. maybe this will still help some one.
