Just picked up my 2009 R8 :)

Hey all

i just picked up my new to me 2009 R8 V8 in phantom black w/ black interior with 23k miles on the odometer. This is my 3rd Audi. My first was a 2009 S5 Phantom black. i just traded in my 2011 A5 for this. heres a pic of my old A5:

i dont have too much plans for the car as i feel it i perfect as is. i already bought warranty ( 40k miles/4 years ) and a eurowise non resonated exhaust.

future plans are as follows:

LED upgrade for license plate, puddle light, frunk light
Carbon side blades ( via hydrodipping or laid CF )
wheels
colormatched ambers

Haha true! But it def wont be to the same extent. Parting out the 5 was a major pain. Buttttt i already ordered an exhaust, led conversion, and spray paint ( for ambers) to start myself off. I just need to find a way do get the carbon side panels without going oem cause its damn pricey :(

If aftermarket side blades are too expensive, you could send your OEM side blades to a company to convert them to carbon fiber. I've had "Feather Carbon" bookmarked for about 5 years because I wanted them to convert a front spoiler from polyurethane to carbon fiber. I still haven't done it. This may be a viable alternative if the price is right. You can usually find them for much less used. For example, there's a seller selling a set for $2500 in glossy carbon fiber in this forum (which is a steal).

Quick question, I assume you had a PPI done before buying. I have done 3 PPI's with R8's that I was interested in purchasing, all under 25K miles. All 3 had at least 2 leaking magnetic shocks, and one had all 4 leaking. I of course walked away as it's about 4 grand per pair to replace with labor and OEM parts.

What is yours, or anyone elses experiences with this? Am I just in a run of bad luck, or do they really leak/fail that frequently?

I am not super mechanically inclined, so I wouldn't even know what to check. I bought this at a audi dealer and asked if the ppi was done, and it was. I also have warranty so if it fails they will cover it. my r8 rides like a dream for such a low car so I don't think theres anything wrong with it.

Just take a peek at the shock caps, they are usually damp when there are leaking issues. You trusted a PPI already done!?!? Good for you man, enjoy her.

I bought mine from a Porsche dealership with less than 29000 miles without a PPI but I didn't care because it had an extended warranty. When I took it to an Audi dealership for an inspection, the shocks were in good condition. Before I bought it, I read online other R8 owners have experienced shock failures prematurely. There is a warning lamp dedicated to the Audi Magnetic Ride. Did the ones you test drove indicate the shocks were faulty with the light? I wonder if a leak would trigger them.

no lights at all . I have fresh warranty so if something happens I can get it fixed

I have considered it, but the amount of work to get them to work makes it not worth it to me. its not as easy as a swap like in my old a5 :( you have to take apart the car and route some wires from the rear to the front of the car. its insane the amount of labor that's required on this car, even just changing the rear bulbs require a bumper pull!
