    Timing Belt Service

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,

Is there anyone located in the Austin, TX area who has performed their own timing belt change that might want to come cheer me on for emotional support? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, but having someone around who has been through this service before would make things 1,000,000 times easier!

My thermostat is leaking pretty badly now and I figured I would go ahead and replace all the major components. I will make it worth your time! Feel free to pm me if you're interested!

This is a 2003 Allroad with 116k on the odometer. The car isn't in terrible shape and I would like to keep her running until the torque converter gives out. If I am in the right position, I might just swap a manual transmission in her!

    Cheers,

    Eric

I'll cheer you on remotely. It's really not that difficult so much as time-consuming.

If you need the cam locking tool (and crank locking pin), go ewktool_ny on eBay has some. They're high-quality, stainless, fit perfectly, and was like $36 before shipping. There's a lot to remove, but it's relatively straight-forward. Some youtube vids would probably give you confidence on doing it.

    Cheers for that!

I have swapped and engine on my Lexus (not really by choice) so I know what you mean. I have seen some of the posts about it and it doesn't look all that difficult, but the proper tools are definitely needed. I appreciate the tip!

It's not a bad job just give yourself some good room and keep the bits organized.

I'm doing my first TB job and gaskets on mine in two weeks. The Edge Motors 2.7t TB video, ECS DIY guide, and the service manual all lay things out well, check em out.

    Thanks!

I am wondering if the cam locking tool really is the only tool I need or if I should cnc a few out before the process. Anyone have CAD drawings for them?? Two of the tools look pretty handy (the one for the fan and the other for the pulley).

Any other tools that are essential I should be getting together?

    Cheers!

You can get a fan lock tool on amazon. Search for Audi 3212. Also can be used on the PS pulley. I have done the job without, but the second time around I picked up the tools to make everything easier.

You will also need a gear puller to loose the cam pulleys. I bought a Tekton 5681 gear puller off amazon.
