Original engine, timing chain and tensioner
Build date on VIN 12/11
Build date on Car Data PR code dump 02/01/2012
This is my 12th Audi quattro and a 2012. Total keeper — Prestige, S-Line, sport package, factory Audi 19" rotor rims, Glacier White Metallic.
Just bought this, only put on 700 miles so far. Immediately scheduled engine timing chain, tensioner service. No service history records from Audi having any of the timing chain or tensioner replaced, only water pump replaced at 85k miles. Engine runs great, no bad sounds, pulls strong.
Measured last week through VCDS
Camshaft adaptation intake bank 1: phase -7.91
Good thing I scheduled this.
Talking with tech this morning, tensioner was at limit — totally maxed out! He noted we were SUPER lucky. Chain was stretched, guides didn't appear to be too worn at all. Balance shaft chains, tensioners looked fine. Every timing chain tensioner job he does, replaces the camshaft bridge. He's never seen a bridge with the screen intact. Mine was one of these, but fortunately, screen parts were there in the journal and recovered. Used all factory Genuine Audi parts, including a new serpentine belt.
Just picked it up this morning, all buttoned up, runs great, smoother and tight. Love this Audi B8 A4 Avant, everything about it, styling, ride — Audi does the best job of designing a complete package. While it's no where near as fast as my 2002 S6 Avant, it is a newer, more refined Audi than than the S6 (which by the way, is for sale). While the front was off, I had them drop in some new DS3 Phillips HID White Vision 5000k HID bulbs, figured it was a good time to do that! (Note: three guides were replaced, only recovered two from the bin to snap off the photos).
