Anyone use Carista or ODBeleven for coding?

So, I really want to enable the lap timer and gear indicator functions on my 2016 S6. I still have my BMWhat Bluetooth OBD adaptor from my M3. Yesterday I purchased the Carista app and it does connect with my adapter. Lap Timer is listed for coding and I enabled it. However, it did nothing. Tried it a couple times. (EDIT: Doh...was not aware of exactly how to view it. It does work!)

Has anyone used the Carista app successfully? Do I need their adapter? The ODBeleven seems to offer more features, like the gear indicator.

Any advice other than buy a Ross Tech VAG-COM cable?

Lastly, is anyone in the Cherry Hill area with a VAG-COM? I'd pay a few bucks to be able to enable these features.

I used Obdeleven and it works like a charm. I was able to successfully enable gear display in the lap timer mod e. I haven't had any issues with Obdeleven.

I used Carista, and it kept failing for me. Every time I connected my dongle, I'd get a different set of available options to enable. After many tries, I was finally able to activate the hidden MMI menu and put my windows / sunroof down with the key fob. Nothing else worked for me.

My friend suggested signing up for the beta app, which may take a day or so to activate. Once signed up, you get access to the beta Apple or Android installer. It has a couple more options and better compatibility, apparently.

They don't support the gear display. I used vcds for that one.

Question, does the D and S gear choices show in the HUD when in lap timer mode, or just in the dash?

No HUD for me man, dont know.

D and S show up for me in the HUD, as well as the gear number. If I recall this was another option I set.

All done with OBDELEVEN. Couldn't be happier with the product.

For what's it's worth I've been very happy with my VCDS wifi unit from Ross Tech but at literally 10 times the cost of the Carista.

The pricing on the Carista app is obviously much much less and seems pretty capable.

Look forward to seeing more people share results.

I just ordered the carista adapter. I have the OBDLink MX but it's not compatible even with a firmware update. That bummed me out.

I have had great success with ODBEleven enabled lap timer, window control from Fob, and did the start stop button inverse all worked really well.

This is my first Audi so I'm not knowledgeable in any of these.

OBDeleven is minimal cost to purchase and then you buy credits, like an in app purchase, to use pre-built programs for many of the changes you want to make. One can also make changes manually. For example I used it to enable VIM with the push of a button instead of having to go through a sequence of steps. I had purchased VCDS first then found I couldn't do some things with it and found OBDeleven. May have still bought VCDS anyway to have but I have been pretty impressed with OBDeleven.

It may be possible at some point with VCDS, but the security codes are unknown, that is unless someone has figured out by now. The various password generators didn't work for me, so I just picked up OBDeleven.

It uses Bluetooth and is easy to use. My only gripe is that there was only an Android app and not Apple.

I have OBDEleven and love it. I have not used any of the apps yet as I was able to make all the changes I wanted via manual coding using the instructions I found on this forum for VAGCOM. There is a thread that links to a word document containing instructions for all possible coding changes. Some that I did are as follows: lowered air suspension 15mm: increased DRL LED brightness when headlights are on; keep DRL on when blinker is on; taillights on during the day; activated gear indicator when in drive; cleaned up headlights and taillights by disabling the yellow/red side lights; and enabled lap timer. I plan on using their app to enable VIM soon. Best $60 I have spent and highly recommend their product. If anyone needs assistance PM me.

I had the same issue, as my family only has IPhones. I ended up buying a cheap Amazon fire tablet for $50. It allows me to use OBDEleven, and when I am not using the tablet my 5 year old has another toy to play with.

NICE! Good to know! The only thing I hate is that it takes 5-6 weeks. My cousin has his own shop, I want to see if his computer has ability to do the same mods before I go spending more money.

I received the OBDEleven dongle within 3 business days of ordering it from a U.S. supplier (Deutsche Auto Parts). Tablet even quicker due to Amazon Prime.

Well that was easy.

I ordered the Carista from Amazon, same day delivery and got it last night.

I plugged it in this morning, turned on my ignition, turned on the app on my phone and it synced for about 2 minutes (I didn't have to do a thing). I then had to subscribe $39 for a full year (the other option was $9.99 for a non-renewing month), but it won't charge me until after the first month for a trial period.

I turned on the lap timer and turned up the DRL while driving to 37%. I didn't get a chance to review all the other customization options, but it took all of one minute to do that.

For my simple needs, this works just fine. There were many other customizeable items that I'll go through later.


Edit: Well, I couldn't find the transmission gear indicator. Maybe I wasn't reading it correctly, but I saw nothing in any of the customization menus that turned this feature on. So, that's one limitation.

I have been wanting to leave my LEDs on with the blinker, and its not possible with Carista (not sure if its possible at all with the C7.5). And I would also love to be able to get the sweeping on the turn signals

LEDs on with blinker is possible on c7.5 as I coded mine to do so. I believe sweeping turn signals require different coding and hardware, but I may be wrong.

I have both! I used carista for my A6 and got the OBD11 for the S4 and q7 because carista does not support them
