So one day car started normal no problem at all then started to misfire like crazy and stalled, and never started again towed it to audi shop, they are saying it's one of the chains snapped, so $3500 to replace if the heads are good. So is it worse to repair or should I just part it out. Car has 230000 km Black and Black.

    Sorry to hear,

Most likely there is valve damage. The chain probably didn't snap as much as the plastic timing chain guide was cracked and disintegrating which allowed the timing chain to jump a tooth or two on timing. I would pay for someone to check out the engine with a boroscope and go from there.

Most likely you're going to want to part it out.

From what I've read $3500 is very cheap to fix that issue. I've heard of bills in excess of $10k for that. Isn't it like $3000 in parts alone?

I agree with @FormulaElement in that someone needs to scope the engine prior to making any determination to repair. These are not non-interfering motors so odds are there was valve/piston damage. If there is no damage, then $3500 is CHEAP. I had the timing chains, guides and tensioners replaced under CPO warranty on my old 05 4.2; it took 21 days and the final invoice was almost $11k. Luckily I only had to pay my deductible of $80.

$3500 is incredibly cheap. So cheap that it seems to good to be true. With that said, even at that ridiculously low price, you should just sell it. Similar to Sin, I had my chains and guides replaced for approximately $10k.

Buy a motor and put it in, what exactly is the question

If it was me, of course I'd repair it.... Just some bolts, and metal, and a little plastic.

In all seriousness you probably are looking at a full engine rebuild with the age and mileage.

I'm not a fan of dumping cars due to repair needs.

You could probably replace the car for less than the repair.
