    Hey guys,

Had the S for about 3 weeks now and its time for ecodes. Im going with one of two pairs on ECS. They have 2 different brands, one is clearly OEM and the other is not(American Lighting). Ones in stock(American Lighting) and one is back ordered(OEM). I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the American lighting brand? Id prefer not to wait till the end of Aug for the OEM. Also, are there any differences between them, including quality? Any help with this would be appreciated

Get the American Lighting ones, only difference will be there won't be 4 Rings on the label.

In fact American Lighting probably manufactures the OEM ones, I'm not 100% sure with the B8.5 but thats how it is for the B8 (Valeo vs OEM).

OEMs are Magneti Marelli. They bought AL in early 2k's. Unsure if they are the same, but I know MM are OE manu, and I recall my supplier saying AL is a lesser.

Looked back through some emails. For B8.5, MM and AL are the same. It's TYC that is the lesser.

Yup MM owns AL and there should not be any MM branded B8.5 headlights. They all will be stamped with AL stickers.

There's no difference between buying OEM and AL except that VAG has not added their markup yet . If you want the modules and bulbs also (pricey), OEM is sometimes a better deal than buying them all piece by piece (very pricey). However in this case ECS has pictures for AFS OEM and they don't show the ballasts, plus the price is too low to have them included as each module runs 100-150.

I would just use my factory ballasts, as I did with my B8 Ecodes

Yup then in your case, go with AL. Usually it's much cheaper than VAG branded, but ECS probably buys so much OEM that their prices for that are dirt cheap. There's zero difference except the sticker
