    Question VDO vs OEM LPFP?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My LPFP is about to give up the ghost and i'm looking at a two options.

I'm looking at either the VDO or OEM fuel pumps.

I have been hearing some conflicting information with some saying that that OEM pump is far more reliable while other folks say that the VDO is literally the same pump since it is the OEM supplier and shouldn't have any issues.

the VDO pump is cheaper at $183 from JHM
    https://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catal...h=21_62_65_255

The OEM pump is 235$ from GenuineAudiParts
    http://www.genuineaudiparts.com/part...xt=8E0919051CQ

Not sure if GAP has warranty but JHM provides a 1 year warranty. With that in mind, I'm curious to know what y'all think of the VDO pump.

I might end up getting that instead if i can get some confirmation that the VDO pump is at the same level of the OEM unit.

FCP Euro are great to deal with, after maybe 6 or 7 shipments of parts over 2 years from them to Australia with everything that goes along with that,I have nothing but praise for them....

How do you know your LPFP is on the way out? Sure it's not your LPFP control module?

The controllers dont really go bad, they do overheat if your running a high duty cycle though. Pumps on the other had go bad all the time. Well idk if I should say bad, they get tired.

A good way to tell your pump is going bad, is when it actually goes bad on you.. lol

My symptoms were that my car didn't like to start up right away when the tank was a notch or two below half a tank - ran it down to the fill up line to check and the car barely started and threw a fuel pressure code. Replaced the pump and the fuel filter - ran the same tests and it was fine.

EDIT: I run the VDO pump too btw. no issues.

Well I found out my LPFP was on its way out because I was getting fuel cuts at WOT.

Plugged in VCDS and logged duty cycles on the in tank pump and I was getting about 76%-80% at idle. At half throttle while driving, it would max out.

The chassis has 135k on it. The motor was replaced 35k ago by the dealership (previous owner) and I'm sure the in tank pump is tired.

Now if it does happen to be the controller, I'll pick up an RS4 controller. I will need to anyways down the road.

Oh and I ordered the VDO pump from FCP. Should be here in a week.

I installed the VDO pump. My duty cycle at idle is now 49% :D

    Thanks everyone for the help.

I replaced my pump because it was showing 45% on the gauge whilst full. Didn't fix it. I guess the next step is the controller?

I think that's a calibration issue bud. You need a VCDS cable to recalibrate the guage.

Thanks mate, what does this mean
Non-parallel shift of the tank characterictic above a readout of 1/2.

Lol I'll be honest, that sounds like Chinese to me. I've never done this before but I ran into that thread a while ago looking to diagnose a fueling issue. It seems relevant.

But I am positive that the pump controller has nothing to do with the fuel gauge. So that's no problem there.

Maybe someone else can chime in.
