    Help with single reoccuring code

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

    Car Details
    - Car is a GIAC K04 E85 tune.
    - The rear oxygen sensors were coded out but they are still plugged in.
    - Car has 3 inch DP to 2.5 catted exhaust (SSAC) with joints welded together (except for flexpipe Vband connections).
    - 85mm MAF
    - SRM IC's
    - Custom E85 55LB injectors,
    - Bosch 044,
    - 1K miles on Universal Bosch primary oxygen sensors.
    - 1K miles on tune

    Code Details
Keep getting the following code since receiving new tune:

17585/P1177 - Bank2: O2 (Lambda) Correction Behind Catalyst: Control Limit Reached

Used to accompany P1176 (same description as p1177 but on bank one), however, this code has not come back in many hundreds of miles. This code is really ticking me off I just cant seem to get to the root of the cause. Usually code stored without CEL but every now and then the CEL pops on. No other codes. Car idles smooth and no misfires.

    Tried Remedies
    - Passed Pressure test. Pumped to 15psi and Found minor leaks (small bubbles from soapy water) in the charge lines but those have been rectified.
    - Exhaust was welded together so there are no leaks between sections. Vband clamps are tight and aluminum 034 gaskets are being used.
    - MAF swap from one of my parts car.

    Data
Took some data today after a 120 mile round trip (1/2 tank gas)
    LT Idle B1: 6.9%
    LT Part B1: -3.9%
    LT Idle B2: 6.8%
    LT part B2: -4.7%

    Single 10 mile city driving:
    LT Idle B1: 6.8%
    LT Part B1: -8.6%
    LT Idle B2: 6.4%
    LT part B2: -10.9%

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Plans for Diagnosis:
    - Use seafoam to try to uncover any possible leaks between downpipe and turbo.
    - Replace PCV (under manifold). Maybe even rebuild or replace the spider hose.

    Help with single reoccuring code

If this was a custom tune I'd say your rear o2s are not all the way turned off but since it's an OTS giac tune it could be related to something else but strange it's only one bank. You should contact giac and see what they say about the fault

Well the OTS tune did not come coded out from GIAC. The tuner who flashed it with GIAC software coded it out for me while he was flashing. So, maybe you are on to something.

Have him check to make sure all of the scalers are correctly zeroed for the read o2 sensors before you dig into it any further. It can be easy to overlook a scaler sometimes.

Sounds to me like the rear o2s aren't fully/correctly coded out.

You can try unplugging the rear o2 connectors and see if that solves it without throwing anything else. If he coded out the heater/catalyst efficiency codes properly, I think that should work fine.

    Help with single reoccuring code

I contacted the tuner. Waiting for reply. I'll try unhooking the rears. I did unplug those when I first installed the ecu just to see If it would trip a code and it didn't (for a couple minutes). But I cannot recall if it was still in open loop or not. If that matters. That would be cool if it works because I don't want to have to ship the ecu back out to California again.

Cool hope you get it sorted out. If you have a vagcom or eBay obd cable you can use nefmoto and flash it yourself if he emails you a revised tune that way you won't have to send him your ecu.

He has not ever given the option of a remote flash before but it's worth asking. Yea I have a vagcable but it cannot be put in dumb mode (old serial version dongle with USB adapter) and an eBay one I use for me7logger.

I didn't realize that the lambda control is part of the tuning software. But then again I zero knowledge how the me7 programming works. Funny because I'm a software programmer.

Thanks all for your support thus far!!!

You have an exhaust leak on that bank. Or you're using some weird o2 spacers.

No O2 sensors spacers. But we will see what the tuner says. Thanks.

See the blue car in my sig? The file you run came from that car. I run the same e85 variant in my silver avant.

Nice. It's a strong tune I love it. What PSI do you run on yours?

I don't bother with more than 22 psi peak without meth injection.

Tuner said the O2 sensors and EGTs are properly tuned out. He did tell me that I need the sensors plugged in, however, so far I have not received a code from having them unhooked. I've only put about 10 miles on it so let's see what happens.

    Help with single reoccuring code

Just an update. Been running around for a couple hundred miles without the rears plugged in. So far no codes!!! But the tuner says I need them plugged in because there is still some catalyst monitor that occurs. This is evident as my car is running rich like crazy (-20 ltft). Not a big deal since I have a couple universals in the shed I'll hook up. It was my oxygen sensor the whole time.

He should code the out completely so you don't have to have them plugged in and you won't have to worry about them. I have ran my car like that for yours with no issue. Plus then you can hook your wideband signal wire to the bank 1 rear connector and log AFR.

I've got a pre cat bung for that :)

He doesn't do anything remotely and I don't want to have to send out my ecu. Is this something that can be done by a different tuner? Anyone on here can help?
