    No start once car warmed up/ driven

    I have a friend who owns a 2012 B8 A4 (we also own Merkurs and are in the the Merkur Club together for years, plus I have a B8/ S4- so we talk Audi's a lot too...but I digress!) and after he drives his car and it is fully warmed it, it may not start.

    From what he has said: it will try to crank once and then it will not start. After that initial crank, it won't even crank again and the EPC light (and others?) comes on. If the car sits for over an hour- or more- it usually does start. It was a CPO car and the shop has it for this diagnosis and repair now on the fourth time. Each time they keep the car a few weeks and have "thought" they solved the issue. They have replaced: ECM, fuel pump, now fuel pump relay. I am sure they have tried other things, but the car keeps dying. This has been going on for almost a year now. Luckily the repairs for this condition started while under warranty and should continue even though now it is out of warranty. The dealer has now pulled in Audi Support because they're just stumped.

    Has anyone else had this issue or seen it while at a dealer?

    Not trying to be a dick but this kind of post is the only one worse than a stulid question that could be answered from a quick search.... "my friends car....", sounds more like its your car... and then "the dealer has the car but the master tech is stumped so im looking for an anonymous internet genious to fix my problem.....

    And i find it hard to believe same issue hss gone on for a year and after a year of the same issue you havent thought to try a different shop?

    Yes I did search- I am not a newbie here! I came up with zero relevant information. If you want to search too, be my guest. Read my profile- I own and S4, not an A4.
    Have you ever tried to replicate and solve an intermittant issue? I have and it's not fun. It takes time and a lot of trial and error- I was hoping that experienced members here could provide some insight other than instructions on searching.
    Itoo find it strange that the dealer has a full, world-wide network and has no idea how to fix this? No other A4 in the world has ever had this issue?
    Yes- seems strange to me.....hopefully others can chime in with some valuable information.

    I understand and never said u didnt search and agree its hard to replicate issues. Like i said i wasnt trying to be a dick just sayin the story sounded odd is all.

    So there are no codes?????
    It sounds like the issue is electrical.

    Sounds dumb but what have they tested the battery. I have heard of odd things happening when battery is not peforming to spec.

    Let the dealer replace starter for a test and double check all body "ground points", especially if its going for a year already, same with battery to engine harness etc!

    If the EPC light comes on, there's a code. You have to scan the car at that moment, do not cycle the ignition to get it. I'd start there.

    My money's on crank position sensor. Search that and you'll get a ton of threads with your same symptoms.
