Clear coat peel on bumper, suggestions?

So I just noticed yesterday a quarter sized spot of clear coat peel just below my right tail light. Obviously the only way to really fix it is a replay, but what can I do to protect the area/halt the spread? I was thinking of a light clay bar, heavy wax, and covering it with a small square of clear vinyl. Any suggestions are appreciated... this peel happened on one of the headlight washer covers and the paint all came off over the course of a few weeks so I obviously want to prevent that from happening here.

I'd buff and polish it extremely carefully and go over with protective paint coating of your choice like Ceramic Pro, Opti-Coat, CQuartz, Xpel, etc... Hopefully it'd help to seal it and stop from spreading. However since it started in one spot, you most likely will see more in other spots. It's just age and exposure to the outside weather elements.

What Mr. Wrong said, or you could just leave it in the garage and drive the MKIV in the background.

On a serious note, how often do you clay bar/polish/wax/glaze? I'm not pointing fingers, but my MKIV R has 194,xxx miles with no signs of the clear peeling. I'm pretty religious about that stuff and it sits outside.

I clay bar once in the spring and once in the fall, then wax about once a month in between regular hand washes. The car is garaged, and spent two separate stretches of 12 months in garage storage.

I would recommend using a ceramic coating like C-Quartz. I've applied it to my car last September and it was the best thing I've done. It seals the paint and protects it for up to 2 years depending on the level of use and exposure. Makes the car super easy to clean and it also eliminates the need to wax the car at all. Just need to use a reload spray.

Only thing that I would say is to make sure you prep the car to the best of your ability including: Iron-X, clay bar, polish, paint correction, paint scratches..etc. Once that coating is dry, it seals everything. I spent about two weeks cleaning and buffing the car before using C-Quartz.

    Good Luck!

that's probably what I'll do after a respray.

speaking of which, what's a reasonable amount to expect to spend on a quality respray? I have a few door dings that would need to be taken care of as well.
