I want an s3 but drive a ton

I really want an S3, like in a really bad way! I drive 1500-2000 a month, some days are 100 miles city and hwy and sometimes are 2-3 road trips. I currently drive an 16 3.0t which is great for the longer drives but its big and not great for city driving. Does anyone put a lot of miles on their s3 and do they enjoy it? Am I dumb for wanting to put that much mileage on one?

I feel S3s are good beaters, probably an RS would be something to think about.

If you're looking for comfort a softer suspension would be better, probably mag ride could be good, but I don't know since I have regular suspension

I bought my S3 because I have a 90 mile commute which I do about 3 days per week. No issues and I enjoy driving the S3.

I bought the s3 for this specific reason, ive owned it for a little over a month and have 3400 miles on it. I avg 28mpg and it is still fun enough that I'm not looking for a "fun weekend" car.

I'm in the same boat but will probably stick in a BMW 335. I have had great luck with the last 3 I have had. I do about 37k miles a yr.

On a side note the resale trade NADA/KBB/Auction prices for a used s3 are not good! So don't buy new or you will take a bath if you trade every yr or two like I do. My buddy runs a large auction and said he has seen a couple pass through for low $30k with low miles. Both were red and not my color. If they were not I would have prob had have had him bid on it for me.

S3 was rated one of the most fun and reliable engines in Audi's current lineup. I don't think you can go wrong.

My S3 is not my only car but I got it as my fun daily driver. Right now it has close to 16K miles on it. I use it for going to work on crappy days and on road trips. Car is a nice place to be whether you are in traffic or cruising on the highway. Plus the S3 gives good mpg's and it always feels "ready" to have fun. If it is ok financially I would say go for it. The only negative things I can say is that the S3 is small. You won't notice it upfront but if you start to put things into the trunk you will find yourself folding down your seats pretty quick.

My S3 is my daily driver. I put 27k miles on it the first year I had it. It's a perfect beater/daily car, I say go for it.

it sounds like you have doubt about your selection hence why your asking everyone in hopes to convince you to buy the S3.

if you want to save some money (if that is a concern) you should buy the VW golf R. its the same thing except that doesn't look like the S3 but in all other aspects its the same car but cheaper by about $10k. This way you wont feel the above annual average mileage will be an issue and still retain the size for city driving.

in addition having a hatch is also a plus for most people doing road trips.

It heavily depends on how you drive and the mode you drive in I'm noticing.

I put ~$20 in my tank for every ~170 miles I drive. I've never hand calculated mileage but the dash says 21 or 22 lifetime. I also never use 6th gear. Just hit 33,000 miles on my S3 and I've had it for a year and a half at the end of next month. I still say it's a perfect daily driver/beater car, I have no complaints.

Yes it is, very much so, the most annoying thing about the car.
Love the car to death, but it likes to drink.
I do a good mix of highway and city driving, mostly to and from school, and I average 18mpg, and thats with putting it in 6th on the freeway whenever possible.

which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone because that's the same with all cars. I definitely wouldn't call the car a "guzzler" ... small-ish gas tank might be the problem people think it's so bad? I do drive the snot out of my car though so I don't usually check the computer. I do know that after a couple hundred track miles I was at around 6.0MPG average. Casual highway driving though it gets mid/high 20s or even in the 30s I think? using 6th gear does help on the highway, not sure why the one guy mentioned he never uses 6th gear. Seems odd to me.

Whenever I drive into the city most of my commute is always a crowded 70-75 MPH and passing power in 6th is a little lacking for me so I just leave it in 5th.
