Leaky radiator needed changed. Ordered one off line and instantly knew it wasn't a match apon arrival. Has the upper inlet and the lower, but also has two more fittings. Was this for a different model 2.7tt? Grrrr so frustrating. Send it back

I thought about that and so I went to see size comparison and the radiator its self is for the most part the same but the bottom posts that sit in the rubber grommet, they are extended off the bottom a couple inches. So it doesn't fit....

That's strange, the core supports are the same.....

Could you take a comparison pic?

Had the same issue, seems they shipped a regular Audi A4 radiator and not one for the RS4:

This should be the correct one:

Order at Audi using chassis-number :) (And no you cant hack in that radiator)

the core supports are not the same the s4 actually has a larger radiator...by almost an inch and a half. the wifes radiator went bad and i didn't have a spare so a 2.8 a4 was near by. flanges are all the same but the posts that sit in the grommet needed to be cut down and now theres like an inch gap where she used have radiator and doesn't now. it has no affected anything operating wise. just something that i figured was the same across the b5 but is actually not.

also for reference the c5 rads are the same size at the s4 but again the posts for mounting are not in the right spot and need to be cut off in order to use.

I was referring to the Mt s4 core support and the auto s4 core support. They are the same. Unless I missed something, he recieved an auto radiator with the tranny line holes, and needs one without them.....or he actually recieved an a4 radiator, and needs to send it back

I can't comment on the mounting posts, but the holes for the tranny lines are self contained inside the tank of the radiator. Tranny fluid circulates through them to cool. If you get one that physically fits like it should, there's no need to plug or block those holes. It will work fine.

So those holes aren't actually connected to the whole radiator system? My thought was that if I was to fill up the radiator from say the top hose connection it would dump out of not only the lower connection but the two new holes as well. But yea the posts that support the bottom are too long. Like audacity said.

If you look closely at the left (old) one the post is not on the bottom of the radiator like the one on the right. That's the fitment issue. And he was right. The two extra holes are routed completely different from the coolant.

And here is a shot of both of them whole where you can see the extra ports. (The shiny holes)

Looks like you have an a4 radiator then. May as well send it back

And no it wouldn't be necessary to plug the holes, that's just my preference.

No, those "extra" holes go to the trans on an auto. They have separate passages from the coolant, as you wouldnt want your coolant and trans fluid mixing. So no, coolant will not come out the trans line ports if left open. If that were the case there would be coolant in the auto trans and trans oil in the coolant.

looks like you got sent a 2.7t a6 radiator or a 2.8 a4/a6 radiator, the 2.7a6 rad is same core size as s4 but mounting points are different, I didnt think there was any manufacturer that made aftermarket rads for a b5s4, all the ones that say they fit are cross referenced from other cars and don't actually fit.

The easiest rad to fit besides stock is a 2.8 a4/a6 rad, the rubber bushings in the bottom of the core support just need to be trimmed a little and the hole in the core support where the bushings go touched with a dremel and a sanding drum, beats spending almost $400 on a new oem rad when a 2.8 one can be had for as little as $100.

I assure you they are the same mounting points, and the S4 rad is two rows shorter.

interesting, I know the 2.8 a6 rad is the same as a 2.8 a4 and is just 2 rows shorter than a b5s4 rad, I thought the 2.7t a6 rad looked totally different in the pictures I saw, I stand corrected.

This radiator thing is so annoying haha. I'm so close to just chopping off the mounts. Not really but if anyone has an extra laying around I'll take it.

Yes. There is another self contained tank inside the radiator end tank. It is for auto tranny fluid only. Otherwise tranny fluid and antifreeze would mix inside the radiator.

Euro manual S4's like mine also have the gearbox cooling lines running through the radiator.
As far as I know we never got the automatic S4's here.

Those lines are annoying when you need to get the front of :(
