Simple Question about Oil Level on MMI

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey folks..Just a quick question-- when i first got my car (march/april *used*) my oil level in MMI was maxed out, as i'd expect it to be-- took it in for the 35k maintenance which supposedly included an oil change and my oil level in MMI says just about 50% "level OK".

    So the question is..
    Is it?
Seems as if they didn't do the oil change both by filter inspection - seemed dirty on the exterior and by the level of MMI.

Dealer is insisting that they did the change.

    Thoughts/Suggestions welcome.

Looks like you are about .5q low according to the MMI. Do you have a dip stick? if not i would pick one up and check, sometimes the mmi is a bit off. Sounds a bit fishy if the filter is still dirty on the outside and you may be correct that they didnt change it which sucks. Maybe check the paperwork to see if they changed the filter, though this should always be done as part of an oil change...

No Dip Stick.. Ill throw a 1/2 qt in and get it back up.. I just dont know why (if they did change it) they wouldnt set it back to max level...

If they changed the filter and opened your hood, the MMI oil indicator will be unavailable for a bit until it registers again. If you were able to see the indicator immediately they never opened the hood and probably didn't change the filter.

Keep in mind dealershits aren't looking out for your car, they just want to make as much money as possible.

This sort of makes sense, they could have drained from the plug which would not require one to open the hood and would validate the still dirty oil filter. But, how did they get the oil back in? Would need to open the hood for that. There is a method to pull up the oil level on the DIS, i believe you open the hood, close the driver door, turn car on (not start motor) and push the throttle open or something. it was recently posted and was claimed to be more accurate than the MMI.

I just had my 15k service. I had changed oil myself at 10k And the MMI had fallen to about 3/4 down during that 5k miles.

I scraped the side of the oil filter before bringing it in. MMI read full as soon as I picked up car so I opened hood and filter had been replaced. We'll see how it does now...

Thanks Guys. I cant really tell if they did it one way or another. Since the car was in for the 35k Audicare maintenance and they "claimed" they did all the work (which included plugs) i can safely assume they opened the hood. The MMI indicator was NOT available right away- which you'd expect but the lower oil level seemed odd.

I guess since i have paperwork stating the work was completed-- ill just top it off and go about my day.

Have them top it off. You had them do a service and it seems they left out 1/2 a qt of oil.

I buy the oil change kit from Europa Motorsports. Includes oil, filter and a few add ons if you want. i typically buy one of the gas tank treatments as well and drop it in around the same time. Shipping is pretty quick and sometimes they throw in some goodies (stickers, pens, etc.). They had a special once where if you bought a oil change kit, you got a pair of work gloves.
