Anyone have issues with a recently purchased/installed 034 TBB?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So when my Samco TBB initially got installed a few years ago, the installer reused the original clamps, which were slightly too big. After the TTB Blowing off the Throttle Body several times it appears the lip connecting to the throttle body has been damaged, resulting in a small boost leak every few thousand miles. I just bought a new 034 I plan on installing today. Has anyone had issues or would it have been a better choice to get the Samco again?

It's all about doing it right the first time. If they blow off they get damaged, if they are over tightened they get damaged, etc, etc.

Doesn't really matter which one you go with, they're all very similar. I had zero issues with my 034 TBB.

I had plrany of problems with them blowing off and leaking.

Ehat you NEED to do is make sure u realy clean all oil from around the tb and use a t bolt clamp to hold it nicely. Its tfr to fit but it does fit and since i did that i havent had a problem. I went through 2 stock and 2 034 tbbs before useing the tbolt

I've got the 034 with t-bolt clamp. It's been solid. My issue is the passenger side bi-pipe blowing off, but I'm confident it's more afmic issue than the tbb. Need to loosen all my clamps and adjust.

Thanks guys. I believe it came with the T-bolt clamps, so I'll make sure to keep everything clean and go from there.

Well that was a major fail. The t clamp that came with it is the size of the hindenburg. Literally no way for me to get it on. Off to the hardware store. I want to shake the hand of someone who got it on using the the clamp that came with an ecs tuning order

I have the same problem with my 034 tbb. Drivers side though. I tried adjusting everything but it never fixed the issue. I just keep a screwdriver handy now.

It is big, but it fits. Use it, you will never have to worry about the boot coming off the throttle body again.

I installed mine with the bolt on the passenger side, stud facing up.

I don't know how you guys did it. I couldn't get the boot onto the throttle body with the nut still on the t clamp, and once it was on, I couldn't get the bolt to meet the nut. I'm sure i was doing something wrong but a traditional clamp seems to be doing the job at the moment. If anything goes wrong, I'm buying a samco, which is much thinner and manageable

What kind of setup are you running? You will probably be fine on k03 boost levels, and mild k04 setups.

I got an 034 and it was a little ficicky to get on but once its on seems fine, make sure everything is lines up properley before tightening and snug the boot to the TB before the bipipes

Anyone have issues with a recently purchased/installed 034 TBB?

A handy trick to keep your hoses from popping is clean both the hose and mating surfaces well and use really strong hair spray. It will keep the hoses from popping off.

both my samco and 034 TBBs were broken and replaced in less than 5k. back to stock-style rubber one has held up nicely. cheaper too. I've played the clamp game, and some are certainly better than others. the narrow, padded, screw types are the best i've found.

I've blown up a Samco and two 034 boots. For the 034 boots, the earlier versions were kinda shitty and the lip that hooks onto the throttle body was pretty weak.

They sent me the latest revision style under warranty and that one has held up with no issues. 22psi on K04s. If it's properly installed, you will be fine.

I recommend the 034 boot, provided it is the latest revision. There are some fitment issues with the MAP sensor, but oh well. Because racecar

I was having the same issue as you...also ordered from ECS around the same time (July 2016). Not sure if it is an ECS thing or just how they all are...See pics below.

My 034 TBB came with a 3.25" diameter T-bolt clamp. The clamp is from Clampco, P/N 941000-325 with a 3.03" min and 3.34" max diameter. Herein lies the problem. The 034 TBB, at least the one that I received, is 3.41" resting diameter. So larger than the max of the clamp. If you put the nut on just the very first thread of the clamp you can get it to open up to 3.37" which allows you to squeeze the clamp over the TBB when it is just resting (not on car) however the TBB expands slightly when placed over the throttle body making the issue worse. There is no way this clamp size will fit when the TBB is placed on the throttle body.

My solution for now was using 3.5" t-bolt clamps which allowed it to fit over the TBB. The clamp I used has a range of 3.38" to 3.7" so there is not much compression of the TBB to hold it on there tightly so I hope it doesn't blow off. I didn't measure the actual clamp min diameter but if it actually is 3.38 that only gives it .03" compression (.015" radially) which is not nearly enough.

Are all 034 TBBs like this or did something change?

    TBB diameter:

3.25" Clamp that came with TBB:

3.5" clamp that I used instead. It is bottomed out with only .03" compression:

Fought the same battle with my 034 boot. This is how I ended up getting it to fit. looks horrible but no leaks and no problems so far... it's a bitch. Just make it your bitch.

The 3.25 t-bolt clamp is the correct size for the TBB. I would not recommend the 3.5 t-bolt clamp as that might not create a good seal.

Sometimes stuff blowing off is a symptom, not the problem.
Make sure your dv's and n249 are working properly so you dont get the big psi spikes. Running into throttle cut is prob tough on them also.
I think it was julex that posted some good logs on this stuff.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.
