My 2002 S6 will not move AGAIN!!!

Greetings- Haven't been here in a while as luckily my cars were all running fine, and then, WHAM! My 2002 S6 that I converted into a six speed two years ago is exhibiting the same symptoms as it did when it had the slushbox installed,.... it won't move!!!!! Was running fine most of the winter and then I noticed that the clutch was behaving like it was wearing out very fast. Sure enough, within a couple of weeks, it was "slipping" dangerously fast so I parked it. A bit of history on the drive train, I got the 6 speed "kit" from the guys in Arizona ( Audis4Parts?) and bought a Fidenza lightweight flywheel, stage two friction disk and pressure plate (can't remember where, but I'll find out) and the rest of the small parts needed for the conversion. So, before I tear into this beast AGAIN, anyone want to venture a guess as to what went bad so quickly. Honestly, I wasn't doing launches or 4 wheeled burnouts all of the time, I think that I did one burnout the first week it was installed , but that was it. My tires cost too much (for me) to waste them on silly antics (even though it is a lot of fun!). Right now the only two things that I can think of is that I was sold an incorrect or out of spec pressure plate or friction disk OR, I installed the friction disk backwards. I made that mistake in my early days (when I was 19) by mounting a friction disk backward in my girlfriend's older sister's 1965 Mercedes 220? sedan. The car would drive, it just felt slippery from the beginning. Luckily a friend diagnosed that problem for me , so when I corrected the orientation of the disk, the car work as it was supposed to, but boy did I feel stupid!. I'm going to dig through my paperwork, notes ,and internet posts to find out where I purchased the clutch parts from as I'm 90% sure that is the root of the problem. I will post my finding as soon as I can. Meanwhile, Please tell me what you think might be wrong with said S6. Thanks as always, Paul, Providencre, RI

Pretty sure you can't install the clutch disc backwards; at least not one I've ever seen for an Audi/ VW. The design wouldn't allow for it to be installed that way. Sort of doesn't matter because going by the symptoms you've got you have to drop the trans.
But if you know what a slipping clutch is like and you think that's it then I bet you got a pressure plate that just doesn't clamp hard enough. Fairly sure the OEM Rs4 kit is the minimum you need to get a good reliable grab with 300+ hp.

Good news is a clutch job on the S6/ 01E is about as easy as you get on a Quattro Audi. I did it without even touching the subframe. The trans will lower right down between the sides. Still sucks though.

Find what clutch kit you got. You might be suffering from two problems:
    1) PP is too weak and clutch was slipping all that time causing very accelerated wear.
    2) PP is not self-adjusting, so it doesn't adjust and extend wear time.

    Thanks for the encouraging info....

Rollerton- And you also answered my next question which was going to be about lowering the subframe or not. To the other poster (sorry, I'm on my phone typing this )thank you as well as I think you nailed the diagnoses as I seem to remember the clutch never grabbed as good as I thought it should have from the beginning, especially being a supposed "stage 2 setup. And just because I didn't have enough to do already with the S6, my 'ol reliable 2000 Passat wagon just blew its water pump prematurely with only 5 years or 40 k miles on the last timing belt/ water pump install. At this rate, I don't know if I'll have time to do my Porsche 911 piston swap this spring, Yikes!!!! Thanks, guys!

Rollerton- where the best place to get an RS4 clutch and pressure plate?

Or should I say, where is the least expensive place to get an RS4 Clutch disk and pressure plate ? And what year/model parts am I asking for ?, I really have no idea when it comes to RS4 stuff. I still haven't found out where I purchased the clutch parts that are in the car now , thought I'd find that info in one of my old posts. Are there any other viable options (Southbend?) or should I just play it safe and go with the Audi stuff ? As always, Thanks again for your help and knowledge. It is truly appreciated. Thanks, Paul

Europaparts for RS4 clutch kit, they advertise them here frequently. Have always had a good experience buying parts from them.

    Are we talking about a B5 RS4 or a B7 RS4?

I found this kit on EuropaParts and its on a sale for $450.00, but is it the "correct kit"? Thanks, Paul https://www.europaparts.com/clutch-k...78198123g.html

It thought that the first day of summer always fell on the 21st day of June

at least that's the date that is etched in my feeble mind from when I was a kid. In any case, I ordered the Clutch kit from EuropaParts and was very lucky as it was on sale as well. I usually miss those sales by a couple of days. `Maybe my luck is finally changing! Thanks for all of the help thus far, I'll post some pics of the offending (bad) clutch so we can examine the premature wear (providing that is the problem of course). Thanks again, Paul, Providence

Not sure what their 'sale' means, because that's the price that kit sells at 365 days a year from them. Not a bad price, it's just what they sell for and rarely a penny less. Good news is you'll have in super fast.
Trying to remember if there was a trick last time I did it...don't think so. Two floor jacks and it can be done in a few hours. Remove passenger headlight to get to the torque mount..you can't tilt the engine much with that connected. And if you do you'll break the mount (guess how I know!).
