I know there is already a K04 thread. However, I wanted to create a Q&A thread dedicated to HPA Motorsport’s K04 setup since they are a newer, but very cost effective player to the B8/8.5 K04 space. I just ask that if you don’t care for my thread, out of respect for others who may be interested, don’t post.

A few weeks back, an AZ member posted a link regarding HPA’s kit. It struck my interest so I researched and made a few calls. It turns out that HPA is a little under 3hrs from Seattle and is a full boutique tuner shop. What makes this project so exciting, is that my 2015 allroad will be the first B8.5 they have installed the kit in. Yes, there will be some custom fabrication. To what extent, I will find out once things are taken apart and dry fitted. However, with 25 years of experience under their belt, I have full confidence in their abilities.

It’s 5am PST and I am officially on the road to HPA. I’ll update this thread along the process.

Took me about 3 hours to get up here. HPA is a First Class shop as they gave me the full tour and made me feel very welcomed! For my needs, I decided to go with their K04 kit and 200 cell downpipe. Since I run e85, I did not bother with the manifold. HPA does have a tune, but unfortunately, it is not setup for e85. Once the install is complete, I'll be heading over to PG Performance for APR's K04.

Here is a couple of their cars with mine cooling in the background

Here is the down-pipe made specifically for my AR and what it would look like for the B8/8.5. You can't really see it, but trust me, the craftsmanship is incredible.

The turbo is off and the lines are being swapped over as we speak. On the RIGHT, is the stock, LEFT is HPA's K04. The most profound difference is the exhaust port to the IC and DV placement. HPA's kit includes everything you need and again, the craftsmanship of the pieces is outstanding.

Some more photos of the HPA turbo

Custom made CNC connection from turbo outlet to IC piping

    YES YES YES!!!!

I am subscribing to this thread for sure. I'm happy you made it. I'm very interested in the HPA kit. I'm saving and planning for a k04 kit next spring so I want to have all options available. I really like the packages that they are advertising so I will be tuned in to see how this goes for you.

    Safe travels!

I wouldn't happen to be the guy that posted about this a few weeks ago would I?
I've been looking at this company for some time now. I haven't bought a K04 or EFR yet since I'm still looking around so this is a great option. Are you getting the intake manifold too? we also require pictures after it's done.

Very interested to see how this goes, that HFC looks sexy.

What was the motivation to go with HPA over what APR already offers?

Other than price for a complete package? He's actually going with APR for tuning because HPA doesn't have E85 support yet.

Cost is a factor and having HPA within driving distance for the install was a no brainer.

Any idea if they're using the transverse or longitudinal kit? Since there's $100 difference and they need to customize it?

Look at the site and you'll see what the only option is for our car... The answer is longitudinal kit.

I realize that but if it is longitudinal and for our cars then why would they have to customize shit to make it fit

Checkout the CTS K04 and it's custom HFC to make it work.

Also to add to what 'Infiltrator' said, if you read the OP then you can see this is the first b8.5 Allroad which this kit is going on, and if you do some research, you will find there are some differences in sizing comparing the b8.5 sedan, to the b8.5 Allroad. Not trying to be a dick, just pointing out what you could have found by doing some research. There have been a few people on here that buy something made for a sedan for thier allroad and it doesn't fit right.

My guess would be that the "customizing" would be fitting the hfc and downpipe correctly without it rubbing against the transmission, something which I don't think is very hard for them to do.

That is very true and I never thought about that. I was really just going off the discussion that there was in the k04 follow up thread a little while back. And in the end $100 difference really isn't that much

Until I can figure out what the next step is to get a tune for the K04 for MY AR, I'll post some final comments.

HPA Motorsports prides itself on attention to detail and craftsmanship. This definitely shows in the quality of the kit and I am thoroughly impressed with how everything came together. Marcel the owner, and his crew are a first class team. If you ever have the chance to visit them, do not miss out. I walked through their shop like a kid going through a candy store, jar dropped and drool dripping down both sides of my face.

The kit itself, well, I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Combining their 200 cell DP and the turbo kit did not require any additional modification to my AR. Fitment was great, it's just a shame I could not get a tune. On that note, HPA does have a tune for the B8/8.5 chassis, however, like APR, they would require your CPU box code to determine if it exist. Would I recommend the kit, in all honesty, without a proper tune, I cannot address that question. I can though, give you this insight...at 1/2 throttle up until about 4500rpms (I am trying to stay well under full boost), the pull I feel, feels like the car is running e85 all the time. For you guys who are not lucky enough to run e85, this means there is more torque and the potential, it's scary.

Hopefully this will be a simple box code issue similar to what I faced when APR first launched the E85 compatible tune.

Once you get it sorted we'll have to do a side by side comparison of the two hardware setups and APR tune.

I called up APR this morning but they were in a meeting so I'll have to call them back. Another attempt over to United Motorsports proved to be a negative. They program ECUs, but do not and will not program a file for my AR.

On the bright side, this kit has so much potential. I have yet to rev it above 4K but my little burst up to that point, sure indicate of the power within. The change in TQ is very nice. It's like driving on e85, without actually running e85. It's that noticeable.

I'm liking what I hear! So its just the AR that has the tuning issue? sedan b8/b8.5's are good to go with the kit/tuning? I wonder what makes tuning for the AR so much different.

    *UPDATE*

So I reached out to APR again and was able to discuss the issue with one of their tech guys. In a nutshell, the file CAN be done. Since my box code already has been "jail broken" per say with stage 1 and 2, it's just a matter of using the parameters from another B8.5 K04 file and transferring it to my box code. The only challenge, it can take up to 2 months for them to complete due to their priority list.

My local tuner, ACHTuning placed the file request so now, it's just a waiting period. In the mean time, driving around below 4K absoluletly sucks. It's like having a porn sized dick, and not being able to use it. LOL
