    Unitronic Tune Stage 1+

    Hi Everyone,

The more I drive my S3 the more I just want to tune it. Originally I wanted to go with APR but their lack of ability to flash back to stock from your own PC is what killed that option for me. I have done some research and it seems like Unitronic is the way to go. Despite my best efforts I can only find a couple of reviews of the Unitronic ecu tunes, one of which is mostly in regards to stage 2. From the little I could find it seems like Unitronic is a "safe" tune that has a smoother stock feel to it. I am a couple months from pulling the trigger on my purchase and before I do I was curious to see if anyone else has experience with the Unitronic ECU and TCU tune. I was tempted with the stage 2 tune because if you buy a stage 2 tune it gives you access to stage 1 and stage 1 +, but I feel like stage 1+ is where I want to be. It gives good gains, no down pipe is required, and it should pass emissions in the USA aside from CA I think. Naturally if I get the Stage 1+ I will also acquire the stage 1 tcu tune. My main priorities from the ecu and tcu tune are listed in order of importance below:
    1. Reliability.
    2. Drive-ability/smoothness
    3. Performance

I am aware that my Audi dealership will basically void my power train warranty on this but I am hoping I can avoid a TD1 by the revert to 100% stock on this. I called Unitronic and they confirmed that you can go 100% back to stock from your PC. Given that this is my daily driver, I want to maintain as much reliability as possible and if my reliability in a couple years will go down the drain then I would just prefer to avoid a tune all together. If it makes any difference I have a 2015 S3 with the performance pack and it has about 16K miles on it bone stock. I am hoping to not get flamed for this post as I did do some research and any input is appreciated. My end goal is to get noticeable gains in performance, a smoother drive and eliminate that annoying bottom end lag.

I have APR stage 1 and DSG tune. I love it and it is smooth like stock. it pulls incredible hard when you get on it. If I were to do at home flashing, I think I would go with Eurodyne over Unitronic. There are more Eurodyne users here on the board, than i have seen compared to Unitronic and the Eurodyne guys seem to really like the tune.

Thank you for the info. I kind of wish I could change the thread title to Unitronics vs Eurodyne so I could maybe get both users on here. I have heard of Eurodyne, but I don’t know much about their tunes so I am curious to see what owners have to say for it. My only concern, after looking at their web page, is they only offer ecu tunes, no tcu tunes, which is something I would be interested in. Part of the reason why I am doing this tune is to eliminate that bottom end lag which I believe is a combo of the turbo engine and the DCT. Plus I hear that when you upload a TCU tune it electronically raises the power of the auto to handle more power more safely. I would also be curious to see if Eurodyne is a similar set up as Unitronic. What I mean by this is if you buy stage 2, will you have access to stage 1 and 1.5 at no additional cost. Also curious which of their tunes are emission legal.
Yea I wanted APR and read good things on them aside from that one guy that just likes to bash APR it seems. I decided against APR though because the cost of Flashing, reverting to stock, then flashing again would add up over time. If APR offered a plug and play tune that I could do myself then I would be all over that.

I've been leaning towards Unitronics myself. Been going back and forth between that and Eurodyne for awhile now. The good thing about Eurodyne is that once you purchase any stage from them, you have access to the other stages at no additional cost. Plus their torqe numbers are a lot higher than Unitronics. I'm not sure how smooth or reliable that'll be though. I've read that Eurodyne does have a TCU tune as well and it goes for like $350. It's not advertised and isn't on their website which is kinda sketchie to me. I also read that the customer service for Unitronics' far exceeds Eurodyne's, if you care about that sort of thing. I kinda saw that this is true from talking to both. Unitronics is a bit more pricey than Euro though. Hope this helps. Here's a couple threads on both:

Eurodyne does have a TCU/DSG tune. If you have a good shop near you that does APR tunes more often than most they will flash you back to stock and reflash the tune after service for free. My local shop does that, so I am not concerned about flashing back to stock when necessary.

Yea, I have been doing some research on Eurodyne and the reviews are pretty positive. Yea, on their web page (for eurodyne) they only list varies Stage 1 and Stage 2 ECU tunes. I could not find a TCU tune for my car there. I guess you will have to ask for it via email. I definitely care about customer service haha. I have spoken with Unitronic and they seem to have multiple reps at the ready where Eurodyne seems to prefer email, at least judging by the voicemail I got when trying to call Eurodyne. I have been doing research though and Eurodyne seems to be a little easier to find a review. Most of what I find is very positive for both.

Good to know. I was not able to find a TCU tune so I guess it is something you have to ask for via email. Yea the closest APR dealer I have is about an hour drive from my doorstep. I may call them to see what their policy is on flashing and unflashing after the initial download of the tune.

    Unitronic Tune Stage 1+

    Unitronic user

I have 11,000 miles on the car. I had stage one at 1000 miles. Stage two at around 5000 miles. DSG tune as well.

No issues at all. Feels very linear and OEM like, just more power obviously. They run a lot less boost then UM and APR, so it's a safer tune, in my opinion, for that reason. Plus tuning at home was appealing to me.
