    Stalling issue?

    Hi b6 guys!

I am a former b5 guy, sold my cars to buy a house, fun stuff.. Anyways, as a typical audi addict, i cant keep off of craigslist. this b6 popped up and is very affordable, but seems to have an issue he cant figure out. I know nothing about B6's so i thought i would ask here. Here is how the issue is described on Craigslist.

" The first major issue is a crack on the muffler, noticed by my mechanic, which will need to be repaired/replaced in order for the vehicle to pass inspection. The second, and main issue with the vehicle is an error in the engine's computer system which drops the RPM lower than 800, causing the transmission to stall. This is prevented by the car's Electronic Protection Control (EPC), which typically (not always) turns on immediately as the engine fails, raising the RPM to 1200, therefore preventing the car from stalling. When I took my car to get it checked out for this problem, my local mechanic told me that this is an issue that can only be identified and fixed by Audi technicians, necessitating the car being brought to an Audi dealership, which I chose not to do, and purchased a new car instead. "

Mind you, this is a 1.8t MANUAL, which i dont see how the "transmission" is stalling.. Any ideas?

2005, red, sedan, 160k miles, some issues, $1500 bucks. If this issue can be defined, ill probably go buy the thing. I need another audi!!!

    thanks!

My guess is it needs a new throttle body or crank position sensor. Pulling codes with VCDS or even knowing what codes they pulled would help a lot.

Without scanning for codes all you can do is guess. A bad MAF, Crank Position Sensor or Throttle body could be the culprit. Does the owner have any codes from the mechanic?

Edit Haha, agentsmith beat me too it.
