Key Fob Error Message

Hi
I get "keys not in car" or another key error message and car will not start unless I put key near steering column sensor to activate start button. Do not have a keyed ignition.
Remote will not work at all and have to use key to lock and unlock
This is with both keys so don't believe a battery issue
Can I check anything in VCDS and or can keys be reprogrammed
My car is a 2015 S3

have you replaced the battery?

try that first. its cheap to do. just because both does it, doesn't mean both couldn't be low on power.
