    Best online source for tires?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just picked up a set of new wheels for my fiancée's A5 and now to get tires. I've used Tirerack many times in the past. However, I'm wondering if there is a better source online out there. Any suggestions?

I've sourced my last several sets, for three different cars, from Discount Tire Direct. Various incentives from time to time. Last set of Hankook Evo 2's netted at about $121 a tire (245/40/18) with six months no interest using their credit card.
Discount Tire Direct is distinct from Discount Tire/ America's Tire, which has good but not great pricing.

I've also seen very good pricing from Tire Crazy, but have never used them.

Tire rack probably has the largest selection, and inventory, of the online sellers. Pricing is good to very good; just not as low as I've found at DTD.

I've used Discount Tire Direct. What I like is they have these tire warranties for the life of the tire for $25/each. If something happens, you call them up about it, they'll send you something to send the old tire back and you get a new tire (which you can then get a warranty on).

One downside is they don't have quite as large a selection, I've noticed, as Tire Rack, but it's still pretty good!

I will say that one plus about Tire Rack is that if you need to replace only one tire (or a couple) and the others have less tread left, they can shave the tired down for you at a small cost. So you won't have to pick up a brand new set of 4.

OP, I've bought from various online sites. tireeasy, tirecrazy...

I usually just search each reputable site for the best overall price.

What i have found is that once you pay to have the tires shipped to your house then pay the installer, it actually costs more than if you just would have bought them from your local tire shop.

I've had good experiences with TireBuyer.com, they ship free to certain tire shops, so check their map for your area. They also had the best price from any of the other major Internet Tire Shops, at least last time I needed tires.

It's been $200-300 cheaper for me to buy tires online and pay for the install, than to use a local shop. The tax savings alone is significant.

And Discount Tire Direct usually ships free, which Tire Rack does not. I've used TireBuyers.com too, and they can be the best deal on certain fitments.

Thank you everyone! I appreciate all the responses. As I noted, I've used Tirerack many times in the past. I do like the advantage of not paying the sales tax. That alone can approach $100 depending on the tire, etc. Saving on shipping would be goo too.

    Thanks again to all!

When I mentioned this at America's Tire the guy looked at me like I was crazy. "Why would you shave down a completely new tire?". Lol. His logic was that as long as the other 3 corners weren't near the end of their life I'd be just fine with one new tire. He said to save my money and not pay for such a thing, at which point I sided with him...as I would any person that tries to save me money. But, to each his own.

Where the hell do you live that this is true! Here in PA my local guy is within $20-$30 installed of any online retailer, plus a lot of places around here charge you more to mount tires if you didn't buy from them, average, new 35 series mounting price is $35-$40/each.

Tirerack does same. At no additional cost, but probably even out with shipping cost.

Discount Tire Direct or Tire Buyer have both been great for me in the past..Usually quite a bit cheaper than local installers and Ive never had an issue from either of them.

I used Walmart online for my Conti DWS 06 tires. They deliver to a local store for free. They were $400 less than the tire shop that had the hunter road force balancer. I then took them to the VW dealer who also has a road force and mounted for 90.

    Best online source for tires?

Not sure if anyone mentioned Tire-Easy.com but i have not found new tires cheaper and 2 days shipping. Name brand stuff along with knockoff.

Once i pick out the tire i want i just type it i google click on Shopping tab and use the search to check for any lower prices.

Tire rack is usually the best because its easier to deal with for road hazard replacement.

Another thing I somtimes do is have a local tire shop or dealer price match tire rack which is usually the lowest price anyways that way I have a local shop to go to for flat repairs and replacment that is a little faster than waiting for tire rack to send replacment for road hazard.

Thanks again to all who posted suggestions. I ran through each one and Discount Tire Direct came up the least expensive for a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 255/35/19 tires at $899.48 shipped. All the other options either had shipping and/or tax added which results in a higher overall cost. DTD does also offer their own road hazard insurance (as mentioned) which I will likely skip.

    Thanks again!

Use www.tires-easy.com ... I have found them to be the best price out the door vs any other large chain such as discount tire, pep boys, NTB, etc.

Last tires were 245/40/18 Hankook Ventus s1 Noble 2 and I paid $524 for four of them on tirecrazy, and $20 each for install. Couldn't get them installed for less than $800 locally.

    Tirebuyer.com
    Vulcantire.com
    Discounttiredirect.com
    Tirerack.com

Had success with all of them. Usually Tire Buyer has online coupons and free shipping on select tires. Only problem I had was that I ordered the wrong load rating on tires after I had them mounted, their policy specifically states that there are no refunds after that.

And as far as Tires-Easy...half of those brands they sell I've never even heard of.

Been ordering tires online for years for all my vehicles and it is much cheaper. I use tires-easy.com and onlinetires.com and I usually save $200-400 installed. Sometimes after placing the order they will notify that your specific tire model is not in stock, but I'll just cancel my order and order from the other site.

Shipping is quick and I get them installed at a local ghetto tire shop (their specialty is donk 28-32" wheels). They have never scuffed a rim. $60 cash for all four tires mounted and balanced.

I'll throw out another option to check into from time to time - ebay. A lot of the tire shops will run promos specifically on their ebay stores. I picked up brand new set of Continental DWS 06 in 255/35/19 for $700 from Discount Tire Direct. Another $90 for install at Tire Discounters and I was out the door for less than $800.

They were running a promo for $100 off of a purchase of $400 or more. They then happened to have multiple auctions for a pair of continentals at $450. So I just purchased two pairs and received $100 off each order for a total of $700 shipped to my door and no sales tax.

X2 ....Also forgot to sugguest ebay as well. I got my last set of tires of eBay and also first time i ever used ebay for tires but it worked out good. Used ebay for tires and went to tires plus which offers lifetime alignment mount and balance for the best price.

Was best deal ive ever had. For tires shipped to my door, mount balance and lifetime alignment.

Most important thing to me is getting lifetime alignment so i can keep the wear proper and 2nd is that i prefer pirelli so again i suggust using google search for best price if you dont care where they come from.

Also recommend firestone or tires plus they offer unlimited lifetime alignment even if you modify suspension you can go back align it, as many times whenever you want. Also if you shop around for best location on a firestone or tires plus fine one with most experienced tech for alignments you can get it done right. They also set it to specs i wanted.

Tire rack hands down. Performance selection is great. Advice, psi runnings on going off menu is outstanding, prices have been the best i have found but those guys know their stuff. That's where the difference is made.

Discount tire direct will beat any competitor price. I just ordered my Conti ExtremeContact DW's from them. They beat Tirebuyer.com and Tirerack.com for me and have done so in the past as well. And they have free shipping ALL THE TIME. TO YOUR ADDRESS OF CHOICE. Not just a installer.
