Picked up a new project this week

Picked up a Dolphin Gray 03' A4 this week for a pretty good deal. I figured it would make a nice fun car to mess around with.
The only problem is that the timing belt was changed at some point but it appears that the tensioner etc. was not changed at the same time. Of course, as a result of this, it seems to have failed and the timing belt has slipped several teeth and is pretty much destroyed.

I haven't really done much with the car yet other than take most of the front end apart to work on timing belt / head / valve stuff. But it does seem to have some nice mods done to it. Including being lowered on coilovers (I haven't looked to see what kind yet) and it has a nice aftermarket turbo-back exhaust (the guy I bought it from thinks it may be a Neuspeed but I havent been under there to check it out yet).

Anyway, I thought I'd post my progress on here and document my adventures of getting this A4 back up and running.

I also wanted to see if you guys have any suggestions for anything I should replace or upgrade while I have the head off?

I'll post a few pictures of it too. It needs a good cleaning because it's been sitting in a building for a few months but it seems to be in pretty good shape overall.

    Thanks for looking!

Pulled the head yesterday, which I must say is a lot easier on this car than it was on my old inline 6 Mercedes wagon.

All 8 of the Exhaust valves are bent but all of the intake valves are perfectly fine, I was expecting the worst when I took it apart so I'm pretty happy with the minimal damage.
The engine seems to be in pretty decent shape inside, no apparent sludge issues thankfully and no obvious abnormal wear anywhere.
Now I'm working on putting together a list of all the parts to purchase so I can work on getting her put back together.

Looks like a really good body for a rebuild project good luck with your project. I'm just finishing up a 2002 1.8 Quattro with a 5 spd manual.

I've seen roughly 5-10 heads with bad timing setups and never have I seen the intake valves bent, always just the exhaust valves.

Finally got it all put back together and it runs great now!
Next up is going to be some suspension work because it has a nasty squeak from one of the control arms or tie rod ends when you turn, also the cheap set of coilovers that are on it are seeming a bit shot.
The clutch also seems like it's a bit worn, it doesnt catch until it's almost at the top of the pedal travel and there's not much modulation to it, it seems more like an on/off type of thing.
The Neuspeed exhaust that's on it sounds quite wondeful (at least compared to my B7 with stock exhaust).
There are a few other minor issues that will need addressing but overall it seems to be a pretty decent car.

Minor bump, but what valves did you use to replace the stock bent exhaust ones? In this current debacle with my car, except my timing belt looks better (still the same outcome) than that. Rebuild the head yourself?
