Question on SQ5 electronic exhaust baffle controllers

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I read you can unplug the baffle motors but it trips an error in the ECM. It is a one time trip or is it one that comes up on the display every time the car starts?

I had the front resonators taken out, under 3500 RPM while the baffles are closed is the only time the exhaust doesn't sound good. Once the baffles open it sounds great. So I am wanting to unplug them, but if it is going to trip the error light on every start up then I am going to look into taken the baffle motors apart and modify them so the motors can stay hooked up but the baffles stay poen.

    Thanks in advance... Todd

It's like TJay said. . .secondaries open sounds raw and savage.
With them closed, it's quiet like stock, but my valves rattle a little when they're closed.

Sorry to barge in, but I'm hoping to learn more. I'd love to have the exhaust flowing through both tips. My OCD demands this so the tips match cosmetically, but I'd also enjoy a wee bit more tone as well. If I unplug, is it simply a matter of playing with VCDS for a few moments to clear any nasty grams?

I had the valves removed and new 3.5" tips welded on at the same time. I used the AWE valve simulators and no issues. I never liked the valves because I wanted all the flow going thru 4 tips

I like that idea....thanks. Just tried to contact AWE about it, but their "contact us" functionality is broken. Argh.

Well I have the 3.2fsi Q5 and mounted Oem SQ5 rear mufflers with valves mounted, but i am not able to use them.
However if removing/replacing the mid or front muffler sounds even better, that would be sweet with the ability to lower the sound when wanted.

You can run valves open no problem. I have the AWE controller and its nice to be able to close the valve when I am cruising on the freeway for an extended time, but it has one major flaw that drives me crazy. The valve default to the closed position everytime you start the car. This means you have to push the button on the remote to open them every time you start the car. Honestly I am considering removing it and just going back to pulling the fuse to keep them open.

Which fuse do you pull to disable the stock valves? Thanks in advance.

I believe its fuse B1 in the drivers side dash panel. Make sure the flap are in the open position when you pull it. It will store a soft fault in the ECM, but will not turn on the check engine light.

How did you make sure they were open?

Just look down the inner exhaust tips. The valves sit about 6" down in them. They will open up at idle in dynamic mode after that car has warmed up.
