Avant exhaust tip - need input

I need some input regarding exhaust tips for my Avant. Everything I've read forum-wise and the like says I need the 80mm Exhaust tips as the Avants have a larger tip than the sedans. Sedan is 65mm, Avant is 80mm. So I bit the bullet and ordered OEM from ECS.

Last week I go to install and the tip doesn't even make contact with tailpipe - a good 1/2" gap more or less. Measure the tip, it's closer to 85mm - measure the tailpipe, just over 3". Okay, so back to the forums I go to make sure I didn't miss something...

Chat, email, and eventually call ECS to be told multiple times I have the correct part and there isn't much else they can do - so I request the RMA.

Before these go back to ECS can someone chime in on what I'm doing wrong??? Here are some photos to clarify.

I would guess that you need the exhaust tips from a 3.2 V6 B8 A4. Relatively uncommon cars as they were a 2009-only model. The valence looks very similar though. Maybe look into that? Or maybe @phray can check his exhaust tips for a part number for you.

    What year avant?

I have a 2009, and I think the tips on the '09s are smaller. I initially purchased the 80mm tips from ecs (https://www.ecstuning.com/ES517303/) but they were too big, so I picked the smaller 65mm tips (https://www.ecstuning.com/ES450250/) and they fit like a glove.

Thanks guys. I was thinking along the same lines @projectquattro, 09 B8 Avants had a smaller tailpipe and starting in 2010 when they went exclusive to the 2.0T they went with a larger diameter.

@Kdaffy - that's what I was hoping to hear - plus I think the 65 MM are a bit cheaper (keep me honest) so that leaves me spare change to put towards a HFC 😁

    Thanks again.
