05.5 S4 Replaced Headlight switch and headlight are now always on??

So my factory headlight switch was starting to fail. I would turn the switch on and the headlights wouldn't always turn on. Sometimes had to give it a "technical tap" and all the sudden the headlight would turn on in the ON position. I obviously decided it was time for a new on. I replaced the switch with a factory OEM switch. My car is equipped with auto lights and (coming home feature). I replace it with part number 8E0941531B5PR. Replacement was easy and straight forward, but as soon as i installed the new switch my headlights (low Beam xenons) and all other interior lights and rear lights are on no matter where the switch is positioned or time of day. So When the switch is in the "OFF" position everything is on with the key on. I have read others had their rear view mirror (dimming and compass) go out on them, but mine is working just fine. I also don't have a Ross-tech but I do have a vag scanner with limited capabilities. Anybody else have this problem. It really buds me that the lights are always on now.

I did replace it with a OEM switch. That is why I listed the part number.

You can't turn them off at all? If you.live the switch to the right 2 spots they still stay on?

With the ignition switch on or the car running I can not turn the lights off no matter what position the headlight switch is.

that's strange. the part # you listed matches the same one that JHM has on their website so I doubt the switch is faulty. I am no good with troubleshooting electronics so I am I hope someone chimes in that may be of some help

Me to! That's why I'm here. I know people can work wonders with a vcds. But I'm not one of them.

It could be the switch. Still have the old one? See if you get same with the old one. Contact where you got the other one and have them send out another. Don't chase gremlins that might not be there.

Also double check the back. Make sure there are no prong issues.

I have this issue after putting my car in service position, lights stay on in off position. Also the feature when you unlock the car and the fogs and rear lights come on no longer works. My compass in my rear view also doesn't work anymore. I tried resetting the battery a couple times but that hasn't done anything. Hopefully somebody knows.

My compass in the mirror works just fine and when I put the switch over to the normal "lights on" and pull out my fogs work.

And I did the dumbest thing ever and tossed my old switch before confirming this one worked properly

Did you ever get this sorted? Seems like I have a similar issue, except I can turn everything off if I move the switch 2 spots over.. I knew my auto dimming mirror wasn't working, but had No idea we had a compass on the mirror.. jeez.. don't ya just love gremlins!!!

I still have no figured out the issue. I even ordered another OEM switch and tried that. Same thing. Headlight on in every position. Even in the off position. Compass and auto dim mirror still work. I don't know what else to lock at. All pins in the connector look good to. Pulled every fuse in the car and they all checked out.

I don't have a Ross-tech and don't know anybody that has one. So no. My code reader can read the coding. But can't change it.

so the only switch that functions as before is the defective one ?
same part numbers ?
maybe the internals have been altered inside of your original switch ? (you know , the old method of isolating/bending/breaking pins so that some lights comes on and others are off at certain times instead of changing the coding)

Well this is stupid I know. But I actually tossed the original switch when I got the new one. So I don't have the original part number from that switch. Everybody that I have asked said this is the correct OEM switch for the car though.

Here is a silly question.. not sure if the B6 S4 has D.R.L., if it does, can they be coded out? And if not, my lights are always on, but if I turn the switch 2 spots over to running lights only, the head lights turn off and the running lights stay lit.. the P.O. swapped out the lights for the ones with the led running lights.. and HID instead of the xenon lights.. would that be the reason they are acting funny?

Sounds like a completely different issue. I think your is related to the headlight swap.

Here's a quick update.. after searching for hours, I found a wiki on the Ross tech site about recoding the central electrics module for the headlights, and after changing the coding to 01003 ( with sensor, halogen lights and USA), I do not get the implausible signal code for my headlight switch, my headlights are now off, my rear view mirror now dims, and I actually have a compass ( didn't know I even had one), and the auto function now works... so all along it was just a coding issue....

I forgot to add the coding might be different for xenons to.

but if you have aftermarket hid lights use the 01003 coding.. seems to get rid of all the codes and lights on the dash, and they behave properly
