    DSG Overrev in 1st

Tried a search, didn't see anything relevant..

So I stop to grab a cup of coffee on my way in to work this morning.. Car has been running for ~20 min, everything is up to temp and has been running fine..I commute with it in D mode

As I pull out of the gas station, I get on it to catch a hole in traffic. I hold at about 75% throttle to accelerate to traffic speed (~60mph), and I noticed it seemed to stutter right at the shift point, then stayed in 1st and went all the way to 8k before I realized what was happening and lifted and it BANGED into 2nd. Sounded like a 20ga. shotgun when it finally shifted.

Ran fine for the rest of the drive, shifted perfect every time.

I was not aware that the DSG could miss shifts... Anyone else have this happen? I've got about 2000 miles left on my drivetrain warranty, should I get it checked, or chalk it up as an anomaly?

Nope. Bone stock. I suspect the previous owner had work done, as the fenders are rolled and the shocks/struts/springs look brand new compared to the rest of the undercarriage, but I have no way to confirm for sure.

Major tuners should be able to run your Vin to check and see if it has been tuned by them. Also whenever in doubt, data logging with vagcom would answer a lot of questions.

You were in 1st gear at 60mph?

That would be impressive, wouldn't it? No, I was accelerating TO 60mph when this occurred.

Wouldn't hurt to get it checked out at the dealer, especially since you are stock. Scans will expose the overrev if it did occur.

Highly doubt the car will go past the 6800 rev limit if its a stock ECU

Yea if the car is stock it should throw a code but I doubt 8k+.

Even on stock ecu software with a dsg tune I ran into complications with hitting factory ecu rev limit. I would imagine stock rev limit to be slightly higher on the stock higher revving 10-12 but doubt it had a set point of 8k. Should be no higher than a free rev in neutral while rolling.

Similar thing happened to me twice in the past year or so. It's like the car gets stuck on first until I let go off the gas pedal and then it changes to 2nd gear. I haven't tried to hit redline or bounce from it intentionally. Car is stock.
I scanned with vagcom but nothing came up, so I'm not sure what it is. I haven't gone to dealer because car is out of warranty.

Something similar to this happened to me once as well from a spirited acceleration from low speed I think it was a low roll like 5mph. It felt similar to having traction control kick in and cut power then it shifted hard into second. i was at 30k miles at the time. It felt bad when it happened but then just kept on going fine since then. This was a 2013 model.

Edit: I should add, I don't think when it happened to me it got to redline before I let off, it felt like it was in Neutral (didn't feel like it was under load) then banged into 2nd.

I've had something similar happen a few times in my 2015, but I've noticed it well before redline and lifted off a bit. The one time I didn't it shifted at 6500-6800 anyway, like normal.

I've had it shift hard into 2nd one or two other times, just as you described bberg22; always when accelerating 60-80% from a slow roll. I guess this time it caught me off guard b/c I happened to glance down at the dash right as I noticed it was winding out and I was lifting, and I saw the tach pinned at 8k. Honestly, I don't know how an 8k overrev is possible on a stock ECU/TCU, maybe it was just a tach glitch? I honestly don't know. I tend to agree that I think it should have thrown a code if it actually overreved, but I don't know enough to say for sure. Nor do I know what 8000 RPM sounds like with this motor, other than what I would assume would sound like catastrophic failure...

8k rpm would be singing quiet nice. 😂

I had crappy 1st -> 2nd gear shifting when 3/4 on the throttle. It was almost as if the car didn't know what to do and wasn't a good feeling when it did happen. After I got flashed with the GIAC STG2 the car has been perfect in shifting in all gears. This was just the ECU flash and not the TCU.

I had this happen on my12 and it was scary. It was stuck in 1st and when I let off the gas unlike the OP it wouldn't shift. I coasted to a stop and nothing, I ran through the gears and it wouldn't shift. After a complete stop and shutting the car off in park (mind you this is in the middle of the road) restarted and it worked fine. Took it to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong and there were no codes. Shortly after that I bought a Vag-Com.
P.S. I was looking at the gauges and I saw the needle way in the red.

    Good, I'm not crazy.

I've put a few miles on it today, and it still seems to be fine again.. Carista shows no codes... I'm starting to think it was a glitch in the ECU/TCU somewhere...

Mind ran great after it happened but weird no code. I thought the dealer was lying when they said no codes were present but I guess they weren't, good to know. What year is yours?

I had something similar happen twice in the last 1.5yrs, but mine was definitely a tach glitch. Both times going wot from a slow roll the car actually shifted gears normally but the tach seemed like it didnt register the shift in time and climbed and stayed at 8k for about a second then did two quick gear shifts and finally caught up to the actual engine rpm. First time it happened when I was stock and second time when I was stg2 so it doesn't seem tune related. No code both times, also tried to reproduce it a few times after that but couldn't.

These cars have a rev limiter. Its around 72k rpms on the 6mt. I have never heard of anyone with an S tronic getting anywhere near 72k rpms. I fact the the S tronic shifts way below red line is a very commonly posted issue. I would believe your tach was wrong rather than believe the engine actually revved to 8K rpms. But if it actually did, you've got issues. Get yourself an extended warranty before your trans goes boom.

Here's one for you guys.. I had another hard shift today, and decided to do a code scan right away.

    Transmission Fault Code: P1F2C

    Manufacturer specific code

I've tried looking the code up, to no avail..
I'm going to clear it, and see if it comes back.

    Any idea what it is?

What are you pulling the codes with?

This is the only thing google came up with: http://www.micro-tronik.com/faultcod...ode_p1f2c.html

Yea I saw that too, but I couldn't find the code in any Audi specific sites. That one seems dubious.

I read your original post and didn't think twice. This morning I came away from a stop light in S mode and before I knew it, hit the limiter in 1st. Would not upshift. No problems since then. 2011 with 53k.

I wouldn't pull codes with carista. It told me the wrong code several times before and led me on a wild goose chase.

Something similar happened to me when my car was totally stock. It was the middle of the day in the winter and my driveway was a complete sheet of ice. I turned the traction control fully off with the car in manual and floored it. The car moved only a couple feet and I watched the tac go straight past the redline all the way to 8k.

A few days ago I had to clear a Maximum Engine Speed Exceeded from my S4.

I can post the log if you are curious but, it was this: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...8/P1560/005472

Didn't get any lights on the dash or anything, just saw it when I was doing a scan with VCDS.

    Likely related to yours.

See Possible Solutions #2 for the fix in the above link.

Happened to me too. One time thing. Had to take it in for alignment/oil anyway so I asked about it. Turns out there is a TSB for it. They did a software update and it hasn't happened again. Probably wouldn't have happened again anyway but I figured I'd get it checked out.

whiped - I'd be more inclined to try that fix, if it weren't so damn fun to leave the lead in! But srsly, I wasn't WOT when it happened, and it seems like neither was anyone else who chimed in.
