Questions on VAG-COM cable and VCDS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i bought a used VAG-COM cable from a member in B5 forum. I tested the cable yesterday in verifying my ross-tech software setup and drivers. everything is looking good (green LED light, software/firmware update from Ross-Tech etc.)
I went into OPTION and did a test, all passed. I did an auto scan and have A LOT of fault code. I cleared all the code and rescan the system again. I got a few code errors but that is acceptable due to all the battery disconnect and repair of the car in the last 9 months.

My next task is to recode. as far as I read, I need at least these login code before I can even start.

    1) SKC number. (i will get it with IMNUTS instruction tonight)
    2) WSC number. (i think i saw it on some of the module that auto scan show. I think i can reuse them)
    3) in order to get the SKC number, I need the ECU version. how do i know which version do I get and where can I fnd that info?

is there any other login code requirement that I need beside the two above?
    thank you
    Olivier

What are you trying to recode? You only need that information if you're trying to adapt a new instrument cluster or if your pairing a new key to the car. That information isn't necessary for other common things that could be coded through VCDS.

I don't recall ever needing the workshop code.

I need to recode my steering angle sensor and recode the radio button with the steering column.

You don't need any of that information you mentioned in the first post to code those modules. Here's the link for the steering angle sensor. Click Instructions are below.

    Steering Angle Sensor (G85) Calibration
Before starting the procedure turn the steering wheel at least 30 ° left and back straight ahead.

+1 to this. It is for the dealer to track repairs. Totally inconsequential for our use.

Good luck on getting the SKC. Mine was an SOB, wouldn't read the eeprom over OBD. I had to remove the ECU and bootmode in on the bench. Hope you have an easier time of it.

To get your SKC you don't need your ECU version, at least not that I know of. Not even sure what you mean by version to be honest. If it is an issue just post and one of us will help you...

    Human Garbage,
IMNUTS has the instruction on his signature block on how to pull the SKC from EEPROM. one of the step is select the ECU version on the drop down menu.

Here's that info for the SKC: https://sites.google.com/site/imnuts/

If that cable isn't a Hex-Can then you won't be able to use it to read the SKC from the ECU w/ Vag commander. If it IS, then uncheck 'boot in intelligent mode' and it will do it.
If you have trouble then there are other ways. But check back when you get to that point.

Oh I see. Yours would be ME7.5 with the 29F800 chip inside then...

You do not need to pull the SKC, unless you are doing immobilizer work or adapting keys.
