Hello all. I'm hoping to tap into the collective wisdom here as my searching has left me even more confused than I already am....

Overview as mentioned in another thread:

04 A6 2.7 6mt ridiculously modified. Most of it done by the PO. (whom I cannot get ahold of...)
Korean Keyless ignition installed consisting of a brain, start button, key card and a boatload of wires. Dowontech brand
They don't return emails, and I can't read Korean.
Basically the RF antenna in the car senses the remote in my pocket as I approach and disarms the alarm, unlocks the doors and arms the start button. Reverses as I walk away.
Worked great for the 3 years I've had it, even after dead batteries and battery changes.
A while back my battery tender died and the battery was dead after sitting for a couple of weeks.
After recharging, the car would not sense the key fob.
Tried new batteries in the fob, disconnecting the battery, even reading the instructions!
I used the windshield touch pad to reregister the remote, but all it would do is now unlock the car, not arm the start button.
I couldn't even put a VAG-Com on it as it wouldn't turn on at all...
Decided to yank the whole contraption out of the car and go back to the regular keys. (I have two original keys for the car)
The installation instructions direct you to put a key in the ignition, turn it to on, and cut the blade off and cover the key hole. Also instructs to mount the key fob in the column for the immobilizer.
They show what wires to tap into and what wires to cut and route through their brain.
Should be a piece of cake to remove and resplice a few wires... Pulled the column apart and.....The entire ignition tumbler is gone.
On top of that I've found an aftermarket alarm installed and a remote start system installed. Didn't even know they were there....

So... Do I get a new tumbler from the stealership? Do I get a key set from a junkyard? What programming will be needed?

My car sits with the steering wheel off, and half of the dash on the floor. Dead as a hammer. Pretty to look at though...

On a brighter note; I picked up an 05 allroad 6mt in great shape. Dealer mantained Colorado car. One owner pampered it through it's 150k miles.
It even has all the cargo covers and nets! Complete and bone stock (heh heh heh) And thanks to 4rings, I'm soon going to be a pauper....
Perfect to run parts in right?

    Thanks in advance.

There are a variety of ways to fix it. You can buy an ignition switch (and keys if you need them) cut to that car per the VIN# from the dealer.
Or you can buy a used ignition switch and keys from anyone and use your old Immobilizer parts and everything 'should' work with no programming even. Unfortunately I doubt it'll go that easy, but it might.
If you do not need to replace any of your RID chips (inside the flip-key half of the fob) and they are still matched to the car then once you fix the mechanical part of the ignition it should start right up. There is the 'pickup coil' of the Immobilizer that mounts on the ignition switch, I can't be sure if yours is still there, but even replacing that I don't think you need to do any programming.
Going by your description I'd lean towards buying a used complete ignition switch with keys, wires/harness and all and ditch all that stuff completely- this would help avoid having to piece together a puzzle and diagnose a Korean ignition security system.
Problem is who knows how much of the OEM alarm/ security system will still function. Guess you'll find out?

    Thanks rollerton,
The pickup coil I believe is still there. At least there is a cylindrical thing that looks like it will plug into the end of the ignition cylinder. Since I have two original keys still, it might be easiest to get the ignition switch from the dealer.
This gives me a direction to go,
    Thanks again!
