    Straight pipe

I'm running the stock exhaust on my b5s4 and wanted to straight pipe it. Where should I straight pipe it from ? I'm all stock right now but I plan on going upgraded down pipes and diverter valves and just a mild tune. Thanks in advance

It's going to be obnoxious and annoying. Get a real exhaust.

    This.

You can often find decent used catbacks on both the classifieds here as well as places like Craigslist.

Or you can have an exhaust shop (pick a good one) fab you up something custom. . . with a muffler.

These are well-built high performance cars from Germany, you can't go wrong by paying attention to quality and details yourself, and if you ever want to sell your car, a performance exhaust will impress buyers a lot more than a straight pipe.

I would definitely put a muffler. I have a twin 1 with 3" downpipes and it's loud. Just on the border of too loud. I wouldn't recommend anything less muffles

Ssac Twin 1, 3" Dp's. Like most say, it is on the border of too loud, but just on the border, imo.

Stock gutted DP's + 3" catback is what I run. I personally love it for a stage 2. When I go stage 3 I'll get a custom one built though for sure.

we all started off saying things like that, welcome to the never ending spiral of modifications

Also, i'm with everyone else, add a muffler in there, and put it up stream to help fight drone

SSAC 3.1-2.5 downpipes to resonated midpipes, to 2.5" true dual piping into a pair of 2.5" 12" long Vibrant resonators in the stock location. Only drone is on cold start at 1800rpm. Otherwise, very liveable.

Save yourself some time and money, with the stock down pipes it will sound nice, been there done that but once you upgrade your down pipes it will be way to loud and be very raspy at mid range rpms. So my advice would be just save some money and time get the down pipes if you don't have the money for the higher priced brands get yourself an SSAC full turbo back either the twin 1 or twin 2 search for some videos to get an idea of how they sound, personally i think that would be the best route wish i had done that instead of wasting so much time and money messing with mine

I switched to full 3" DPs from 3-2.5" after going stage 3 and I've been told it got louder by many although I don't think it did. I did however notice the tone got deeper and more throaty then before.

    Straight pipe

I probably paid too much but I have milltek cats and super dual exhaust. It works well and sounds awesome. Let's be honest, if you have the car with a deafening exhaust no one wants to drive with you or near you (especially chicks). It's an Audi, if you can afford to drive it you can afford a decent exhaust. Please stay classy.

Speak for yourself. I have no issues when I say lets go for a ride and light up 4 wheels. Then again I don't have a stock car with a straight piped exhaust soo.

I have 3" dps to 3.5" single with a little resonator in the middle. It is obnoxious. It is raspy. It is loud. It drones. In retrospect, I should have purchased the SSAC twin 1.

    Oh come on, my S4 is rice? ;) It's a twin turbo v6, not a 4 cylinder.

It's okay, you're young, you still have time to learn . I'm a fan of loud exhausts, however you can still be loud and have a proper exhaust that's loud yet emits a refined tone to it.

Its just my opinion though, if people truly love the sound of straight pipe then go for it. I just associate it as a cheap modification, if you cut corners there, then those people are bound to cut corners other places. And as the community has learned, cheap and modified Audi's isn't always the greatest combination. Those SSAC exhausts are dirt cheap and sound halfway decent for the price.

I've ran a single three inch straight pipe for a while now. Just driving around its not loud at all. When the waste gates are open everyone in a 1/4 mile radius hates you. I love the sound and it's not because I'm cheap or cut corners. This summer though I'm building a single 4 inch with a single muffler though because I dislike the attention the straight pipe gets. I also enjoy playing with welding (I am more of a grinder though). Ironically I've never been pulled over for a loud exhaust. It's probably because I don't drive a Subaru.

put a muffler on it, I have 3" catless downpipes to stock 55mm pipes to the Y then I have 2.5" all the way back to a muffler and its still loud. I can't imagine straight piped.

Come on lillard, if it can be heard 1/4 down the street it's too loud.

    True statement.

In my experience, as I've progressed to faster vehicles, they've gotten quieter along the way as well.

I love my twin 2. Even though it's a knockoff, it sounds great and is completely off the radar.
