Okay, I give up. How the hell does one remove the shift knob in this car?!? I figured a quick search would yield the answer, but nope.

    Shift knob

It is very easy. Start by grabbing the frame of the boot and pulling up. Should not need a lot of force to unclip from the center console. Pull the boot up over the knob and there should be a crimp clamp there. You will need to take that off. Then fold the boot back down. Next, this takes both hands, grab the gear select button and pull outward to disengage it from the button mechanism.. At the same time, pull up on the shift knob. It should slide up and off.

+1 on that...huge PITA to get out again, but it can be done if need be.
