    Transmission failing?

    2006 a4 quattro 59,000 miles.

A week ago I was driving my car, accelerating onto the highway, when all of a sudden going from 2nd to 3rd gear the whole car violently jurks when shifting. come to find out that it also does it when entering 5th gear. It now does this with both 3rd and 5th gear, either from upshifting or downshifting. The clunking gets worse the longer the car is running until it reaches operating temp. last night, when shifting down from 4th to 3rd, the cars prnds display lit up, and the car acted like it was in neutral, even though I was in drive. I stopped on the side of the road, turned off car, turned it back on and was able to make it back home, which was only a couple blocks away. The clunking is very noticable and is getting more and more violent. Any ideas??? I waited a long time to find a car with this low of miles tryinng to avoid problems such as this.

Ive done my fair share of reading in this past week, only finding issues similar to mine, but not one that has all my symptoms.

Do you have a CEL? If not, I know that there were a few issues with auto trannies in the A4 that were fixed with a fluid change and some sort of tranny reprogram at the dealership. Unfortunately, I dont know much more about the programs of the transmissions in these cars.

Other cases normally point to the torque converter in some way or another beginning to fail.

No check engine lights on. I have also heard the same thing, but Ive read that the torque converter wouldnt normally cause the kind of hard shifting im feeling.
