So my s4 currently has 250k on the clock, and I plan on driving till somthing blows. When it does I'm going to swap in a 4.2l. I came across a guy selling a 2000 a6 4.2 (art) with the harness, ecu, and all accessories for 500$ a deal so good I had to buy it. Now I know the a4 guys do this, so I figure post it in here right? Plan on it taking a min of 6 months, I want to refresh the engine while it's out. My main concerns are if I have to modify the subframe(some have clearance others don't why is that), and electrical because the a6 was an auto so will I need the ecu coded for a manual trans, the diy shows some wire splicing for the fpr bUT that was an a4, is the wiring different for an s4? Any info please add. Also yes I know 2.7s make more power, I really just want an N/A v8, reliable and they sound amazing. Thanks, will be posting pictures soon. May even turn into a build thread (a very slow one)

notching the sub frame is easy if you know someone who can weld. Also get 4.2 motor mount brackets. It will make the physical mounting of the motor very easy vs making or customizing a set

Yeah I like the way you did yours! If it comes down to it I'll follow what you did, I've been looking for an excuse to buy a miller welder anyways, I'm not the best yet but I can weld. Yeah I've read through your build I plan on getting the brackets. Awesome thread btw already has answered alot of questions of mine. Looking forward to more progress!

thanks man. Just don't ask me about wiring lol. My buddy did mine at the shop when I wasnt there lol my advice as far as that goes is get wiring diagrams for both your car and the car the motor came from. Look at what pin does was and what wire does. Match them up by what they do not color to color. An oil pressure switch wire might be blue on your car and green on the other
