Expired Registration -- is it okay to have if trading in car??

So... didn't realized my registration just expired, but I happen to be trading in my car next week.

The new buyer will pay for DMV tags, and the dealer registers the car themselves, so I don't think it should be an issue. I think it simply a risk for me in the interim.

Is this correct, or am I mistaken?

That sounds about right - don't drive it with expired tags. Other than that, should be ok.
