2014 Audi S4 with 19.6k miles for sale. Would you buy this?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was thinking of purchasing a 2012 charcoal S4 with 33k miles on it for about 30.5k.
Then this one came onto the Craigslist Market below. I just test drove it today and it felt really nice. Im not a car guy so I cant really tell the difference between the two but I loved the blue color of the 2014. Also it looks like the maps on this one looks better.

    Anyways,

He showed me that his car was appraised at Carmax yesterday for 35k which is what they were willing to pay him. He said that to break even with his lease, he would need to sell it for 38k. If I offered 37k and he accepts, is this a good deal? My wife thinks im crazy for buying a used car for this much money but she doesnt know how much cars costs with big engines :).

    What would you do?

It is a solid deal. Pull a car fax on the car though and get it inspected by a third party before purchasing

Sounds like a great pick up! As others do I would call AoA and see if everything checks out with regard to TD1 tuning code that voids warranty... But overall just seems like a guy who is moving onto something else and wants to make slightly over the trade. I'm in the market for a very very similar car - and that sounds like a fantastic deal on your end.

I'm curious, why is he selling?

Yep, I'd say it's a good deal. I just picked up a 2014 Premium Plus 6MT with 22k miles for $37.5k, without Sports Diff or blind spot monitoring.

If you like it, grab it before someone else does. Theses cars are in short supply and high demand. DEALERS generally don't discount them. But KBB estimates are not always reliable. Sounds like a great car at the right price. I would offer $38k even. You get a great car at a good price and he gets out from his lease.

Great deal if it checks out.

I picked up my car for 38k last year with 36k on it. It was a 6sp with a sports diff tho, a little more rare.

That seems like too good of a deal... You have a money-back-guarantee period with CarMax, so you can buy it and then take it to a dealer/indie to be checked out. Also, their optional extended warranty is supposed to be very good.

I can tell you good AND bad CarMax stories; keep in mind that they are still a USED-CAR DEALER.

I guess you don't read He said he was buying it from the owner not CarMax. CarMax was willing to give him 35 for it.

Deal is really good. I would see why he trying to dump it. Maybe he just needs to get out of it. Just feel his story out and see if it checks out in your head. If it does then your good. I fell into a deal like this for my exhaust. Dude had the exhaust for 5k miles and decided he wanted to trade his brand new car in for a M4. So he lost his ass on the exhaust which he just had put on 3 months before. But he didn't care.

I would get a PPI if you are dropping this kind of $$$$ on a car.

FWIW, this is a great deal. I bought my '14 with ~14k miles on it for $39k.

Then the Mod Bug hit so be prepared to drop another $5k+

Sounds like quite the deal! In fact, so good that you definitely should: 1) run a CarFax, 2) call AoA and run the VIN by them for TD1, and 3) pay a trusted mechanic to inspect the car for mechanical and paint deficiencies. It's nearly the car I am looking for with the exception of the flat black interior. It may be worth offering to put some money (several hundred $) in an escrow account (? via Paypal, etc.) for him to hold it for you until you line up an inspection (first right of refusal).

Where the hell did that number come from? If he thinks there's no difference between 4.5 and 5 seconds I'd be suspicious of everything else they claim. 11% Difference is a BIG difference.

Now that we're on it where did some of those other features come from? Google maps? Sounds like he copied and pasted some of the B9 details? I'm always weary when they can't get the facts straight. Other people may not care.

I just purchased this vehicle. The seller recently purchased a new Tesla and had no need for the S4. He wanted to go “green”. Vehicle was leased so all maintenance was done at the dealership (via Audicare) and no mods whatsoever.
Other than a couple of minor scratches, the car is perfect. No TD1, still under warranty + Audicare to 45K.
I checked for DTC’s through my Vagcom hex-net and it had two codes. 1 - for a rear camera issue that was resolved. 1- for a dead key fob battery.
Seemed like a good deal to me.

Sorry but that didn't seem like a great deal like everyone is making it out to be. $38k for a 2014 might not be overpriced, but at best it's a normal deal. Plus DSG trans is nothing to get excited over.
Im glad OP passed. Congrats to the new buyer but I hope you didn't pay that much.

I love the DSG, The 6-speeds clutch is weak. It can barely hold stock power. Drove manuals for almost 30 years I don't mind the change especially when it's an improvement.

Out of curiosity, how do you pay for a $37,000 used car from a private seller? Do they usually accept certified checks or do you have to come up with that much cash?

You can get the vin from seller and get pre-approved for a loan to cover it. I've done it with my credit union a few times.

Sounds like a good deal to me...but I am biased as the owner of a very similar car. The part that makes it a good deal is the low mileage, great condition, and service history IMO...plus it has great options. DSG vs manual is a personal choice....I do miss a manual but enjoy the speed of my DSG shifts and the DSG farts. Neither transmission is very reliable IMO.

Seems like a good deal, for reference I purchased a 14 with 9,500 miles in February 2015 with about the same options as above, Audi care, 18" wheels with winter tires for 44k.

Like others said, you get a certified check from your bank. You can finance if you wish, just be sure to get a certified check. After you get the check and pay the seller, you and the seller need to go to an auto tags place to transfer the title and register the vehicle in your name (you will need to pay 6% PA sales tax on the purchase price, so be sure to budget for that).

Sounds good - I think the only way you could do better is look around for leases coming up or their respective 2/3 year mark ;)
