New A6 - advice on new grille please!

Hi All,

Just got my 2013 A6 (3.0T / Quattro). The grille had the front license plate mount on it because it was required in the state i purchased it in. When taking it off, I have 6 holes in the front (4 for the mount and 2 because they used long screws when mounting the plate).

Advice when you look at my car.... what should i do, options below:

- Install Grille Plate
- Replace Grille with same and no license plate mount
- Replace Grille with a blacked out or RS style grille

What do you think about the after market brands - ESC, for example. Whats the best one for the price?

Also - keep the emblem chrome or black it?

Got mine from ECS Tuning. Mesh without Quattro on bottom. All personal choice. Very pleased, fits perfectly, looks great!

if you have to put a license plate holder on the front I would go without the quattro on the bottom. it looks awkward and when I eventually do this I'll have to ditch the quattro because new CT laws require the plates on the front and back now

I am strongly considering the Black Optics grille. Mostly to keep the orginial, non-rs style, for resell value. Also considered plasti dipping the current grill. DOes anyone have recommendations on getting a Black Optics grill? THey seem very hard to find.

My S6 once had a front plate installed. Same deal as yours - 6 holes. I plugged the holes myself using bondo. Not the greatest job, but did the trick for the most part. I then taped off the chrome strips in the center of the grill and laid down several coats of plasti-dip. That's held up relatively well so far. Recently I had some damage to my car repaired and asked the body shop to paint the grill. They reported that their attempts to do so failed. Paint kept stripping off. As I see it, that leaves you with a couple of options depending on how much you want to spend:

1. Fill the holes (either with bondo or plugs) and depending on your preference, plastidip)
2. Replace grill. I personally prefer the black optics grill over the replica RS grills. The replica RS grills appear to be relatively flimsy, but that may not be an issue if nothing impacts the grill sufficiently hard/fast enough to cause damage. The black optics grill combines a stronger grill, better mounting points for laser defeat sensors, and is aesthetically pleasing. If a used one pops up at a good price, that's likely the direction I'll be heading in.

If you want the/like the blacked out look fill the holes and plastidip (I did the same thing)

The ECS tuning is 324.95 for the RS Black Mesh grill with front camera. The Europrice grill - is a whopping 1701.00 with the sensors and night camera. I wonder why the huge price variance? I want the RS6 grill/Black Optic version for my '16. Want to make sure with the facelift it will fit perfectly.

Has anyone bought either, or both...and can enlighten us on the quality as well as installation. The pics on Europrice are much nicer...lol. But 1700?!?!?

I personally prefer the horizontal OEM grill, especially blacked out, but I think I'm in the minority. It really supports the rest of the front end lines.
