Has anyone been able to clone keys for a 2012 A6 Prestige? Lost spare.

    Hi guys,

I have recently lost my spare for my 2012 A6 Prestige and the dealer quote is $240 with programming. ($140 key + $100 program). I have my master and a black valet key. I'd like to avoid the $240 dealer cost. I am seeing lots of key fobs on eBay used preprogrammed for $35-75. Used erased $75-120. Dealer new $140 and Chinese clone for $40-80.

I have reviewed numerous threads about how to program keys. i haven't found any good examples for my car. Lots of examples for older cars. What I have read is that I can bind they keys to my car using VagCom (or a manual procedure?). However, it is not clear if the immobilizer will accept the key to start the engine. My local locksmith isn't able to program any key to my car.

Could someone with more experience walk me through my options?

    1) Can I clone my current key without paying a dealer to program a blank to my car?

    2) Can I use a used key the same FCC ID? Does it need to be the same part #?

The cheapest option would be to clone a used key or Chinese blank from my master. However, I can't tell if that is possible with our mobilizer or where I would go to do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't see a clear "here's why" from the PDF other than VW/Audi are providing services competitively to support key pairing/duplication with your vehicles. I see lots of information in our threads here about how to clone keys for <2012 models. I suspect that larger cities with more clientele likely have locksmiths with the proper equipment to create/clone keys for our vehicles. From what I have found in the market those machines are not priced to justify spending more than what the dealer will charge me... $240-400. I need to call and find out what the price is and decide if it's worth the piece of mind.

Thanks for the link and I'll at least keep the thread feedback updated when I find out from my local dealer what they charge.
