18 psi boost on stock b7

Hey everyone. I finally grabbed an obd2 bluetooth reader for my car and decided to load up this Torque app to see pretty graphs and such. I have a B7 2.0t that, as far as I know, is stock. I loaded up the boost PSI graph, and I was seeing the pressure staying level at as high as 18 psi. A quick search around the board made me think that either 1) I may not actually have a stock setup or 2) my new obd2 reader is bad. I purchased https://www.amazon.com/BAFX-Products...ds=ELM327+obd2 , but my mechanic friend told me that these generic readers can't talk to german cars' ECUs properly half the time. Any suggestions on figuring out if its a bad obd2 reader? How does one figure out of a car has been chipped before? Ugh, these feel like dumb questions!

The torque app is shitty for the 2.0t and boost readings. It doesn't actually read boost, it calculates boost based on other variables and there are settings you have to adjust to make it accurate. Do not trust torque app at all for boost readings unless you are able to verify them with a proper source.

Are these settings something that doesn't show up in the "Lite" version of the app? Any recommendations on a better app?

This is what I hear, and I was not under the impression that this car had been tuned by a previous owner.

Im surprised to hear that, I did a side by side and the VCDS actual boost matched up pretty well to the log i took with my elm+torque app.

It may be because I'm at 6000 ft elevation, but I tried everything, and could not get the torque app to read boost anywhere near what my analog podi gauge showed.

I agreed with Sanjman as I also have elm (less than $10) +torque apps and I am very surprised as well it works. It actually detected P0171 on my car as my car was leaking oil around valve cover gasket and lack of power but VCDS couldn't detect it. Instead of buying a new pcv valve, I decided to open it and I noticed the small spring under the large orange piece was stuck. I cleaned with brake fluid until spring loosen. My car power is now restored and oil stopped leaking after the pcv cleaned. Anyway, I would agreed that that elm + torque apps works very well. Overall, it is a great tool having in the car.

Yeah I find that hard to believe that VCDS didn't pick up a code.

You ever get a Mode$06 error while checking the Test Results in Torque? This worked for me at first but after the 1st try it started giving me an error

No, I don't get mode$06 error but you should go to Adapter Status and check if you have any communication error - the top 3 (Bluetooth enabled, connection to adapter and connection to ECU) should all state Yes.

no visible error, all the connections seem fine and all other features of torque work fine, even if I look up the sensors individually I get the values from them. only test results for all sensors gives me errors
